Udupi, May 20: Around one to two tonnes of waste in the form of discarded used plastic, rotten things and liquor bottles were lying on both sides of the bridge of Sita river at Mabukala. Foul smell was emanating from this waste in the surrounding areas. So, in order to protect the environment as well as the water of Sita river from getting polluted, a cleaning campaign was held jointly by Bandavya Blood Group, JCI Kota, Swachha Abhiyana Udupi and other like-minded organisations on Sunday, May 19.

More than 50 volunteers took part in the cleaning campaign under the leadership of Dinesh Bandavya. Locals, pedestrian and vehicle users used to throw the garbage while passing through the bridge.

Speaking about the campaign, Dinesh, founder of Bandavya Blood Group said, "From a long time, the garbage in this area was piling up. So, we have held a cleaning campaign. Monsoon is round the corner. If this waster gets washed into the river, the water gets polluted. We will decide whether to install a CCTV or warning board to prevent people from throwing the waste here."
