Media Release

Mangaluru, May 11: The most celebratory day for any institution 'Annual Day' was held at St Aloysius Industrial Training Institute on May 10.

The theme of the day was 'Celebrating Diversity'. The institution premises were decorated with multi-colours to exhibit the festive mood. The two-month long preparations were about to bear fruit.

The annual day celebrations commenced with a warm welcome to the audience and an introductory note by the compère of the programme Gyaral Milton Lobo- Secretary of the student council. A prayer song that followed, ensured an auspicious beginning for the celebrations. Students presented a graceful welcome dance and spread the aroma of love. Annual report for the academic year was presented on a mega LED screen set on stage. Vincent Mendonsa- Principal of the institution accorded a warm welcome to everyone.

The programme was presided over by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions. Other dignitaries were chief guest- Vinayaraj, former corporator, MCC; guest of honour- Arvind Bolar, a well known tulu theatre artiste; Fr Melvin Lobo SJ- director of the institution, Naveen Rasquinha- president, alumni association and Shameer, president of the student council.

Prizes were distributed to the winners of various events conducted during the academic year. Chief guest Vinayaraj and guest of honour Aravind Bolar were felicitated for their achievements in their respective fields. Receiving the felicitation, Tulu film and drama veteran Aravind Bolar said, "I am humbled by the recognition given by this great institution for my work. This institution is truly committed to uplift the under-privileged. Talking about his journey through theatre life, he said, "If you commit yourself fully to the work of your interest, you will achieve success. If you become a master in your field, you will always be in demand. If you doubt your ability, nothing is achievable. In my life as artiste, directors give direction and bring out the best in me. Likewise, your teachers show you the right direction and help you to get the best out of life. Your parents love you very much, but do you love your parents? If you love your parents and take care of them, it itself is a big blessing for your life."

Speaking on the occasion, chief guest Vinayaraj said, "This institution is a part of a great legacy of St Aloysius Institutions. They not only provide you with technical skill, but also emphasize on all round growth so that you become successful individuals in life." Cautioning about the recent developments in society he said, "India is not a nation which was built in the last five years, but it is a nation which was built by great leaders since 70 years but, today an effort is being made to falsely depict that this nation was nothing before five years and thus wrong information is being fed into the young minds. 'Skill India' could be a new word used for technical education, but the skill development education was present since the time of independence. Our youngsters need to develop proper political sense, otherwise, this nation will perish. Youngsters need to develop the ability to differentiate clearly between a truth and a lie. There are forces which are trying to unite and there are also forces which are trying to divide. Our youngsters should take the responsibility and play an active role in keeping our nation united and preserve our culture of unity in diversity."

The outgoing director Fr Melvin Lobo SJ was felicitated as he had been transferred to St Aloysius Gonzaga School as its principal. Receiving the felicitation he said, "We have diversity in our nation. We need to preserve it. That is why the theme of this annual day has been taken as 'Celebrating Diversity'. I will cherish the memories of my short association with this institution. I am grateful to the management, staff and students." He also introduced and welcomed Fr Cyril Dmello SJ- New director to the institution. Fr Cyril Dmello was felicitated and handed over the charge of the institution by Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ- Rector of St Aloysius Institutions.

Taking charge Fr Cyril Dmello said, "The motto of this institution is to empower the youth from poor families and backward communities by giving them best technical education. Let us work together and take this institution to newer heights."

In his presidential address Fr Dionysius Vaz SJ said, "Unemployment is increasing in our nation. We believe that one of the effective answers to this problem is skill based education. We are happy that our ITI is imparting the best technical education at par with industrial standards. We are committed to quality education. We are continuously upgrading the training facilities. As an Aloysian institution, we give the following qualities to our students: expert skill, self confidence, conscience to differentiate between right and wrong and concern toward the poor."

After the formal programme, the students presented a colourful cultural programme and enthralled the audience. Wilson N- Convener of the programme proposed the vote of thanks.

The celebration concluded with the National Anthem. A fellowship meal had been arranged for all the students.
