Kundapur: Man Drowns While Attempting to Avoid Police
Vinay Pais, Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur

Kundapur, Apr 3: A person drowned in a rivulet at Kandlur Alivinabagilu, near the Arabian Sea, as he was trying to escape from the policemen who raided his house at about 1.30 am on Thursday April 2, on a tip-off that some member of the family was involved in illegal transportation of cattle.

The deceased has been identified as Mattin Karani (23) son of Karani Ameer Saheb, a resident of Kowrady village, near here.

Sources informed that Mattin Karani fled when he saw the policemen led by sub-inspector Satish Kumar, and jumped into the rivulet nearby.  The policemen following him found Mattin Karani gasping for breath and pulled him onto the river bank.

Though he was given first aid at Chinmaya Hospital, he was later taken to the Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Meanwhile, Karani Ameer Saheb, father of the deceased, lodged a complaint at the police station here alleging that the sub-inspector is a follower of RSS ideology who had threatened Ameer Saheb six months ago.

Saheb alleged that the policeman had claimed that he would kill them in a future encounter and abused him. He alleged that his son Matti Karani was murdered and dumped into the river.

The local unit of the Popular Front of India (PFI) and Souharda Samiti held a press conference here on Thursday April 2, to condemn the tragic incident and demanded the suspension of Satish Kumar.

Both local units of PFI and Souharda Samiti called for a protest at 3.30 pm on Monday April 6 at Shastry Circle here to urge the police department to suspend the police official.

At least one person got guts to say the truth. Must have been like some Cinema shooting ended in tragedy. Human beings without money and power are like animals which can be eliminated without any purpose in our peaceful country. Better to be cows than non-hindus.

Such activities and harrassment f minorities are the root cause of terrorism in India. Why there was no terrorism or bomb age before the demolition of Babri Masjid. If you dont route out communualism, it is impossible to eradicate terrorism. Justice and social equality is the only solution to the problem of terrorism. The wounded lion never keeps quiet. Now every body knows why terrorism is born. How loud Mr Advani shouts to say that terrorism is their main election agenda, but let him not forget that he is the father of terrorism and communualism in India. It is his BJP and parviar soley and whole heartedly promoted division and communualism in our rich Indian society. We love our mother land and our country more than these psuedo patriots.

OK,we get it now.. For our present state administration a cow is more important than the life of a human being. To this date the the police have not arrested nor prosecuted anyone who has either indulged in violence in goondaism in Mangalore,Yet here they are running after a cow and getting a human to drown and die in the process..

It is disheartening to learn from rajesh, kundapur that Mr. Mattin was begging help in river and police did not allow anyone to help. This is one of the worst, heinous crime a police are doing. Now tell us who are terrorist and why terrorism is born in our soil? We are living in Kali Yugh and what these police and their associates have done to Mattin it will happen to the guilty families and in our own time we will be the witness

When RSS/BJP rules any state that means no protection for minorities. the "cattle" story is just drama. reality is RSS wanted to trouble minorities. The worst thing is Police officers are actively involved in RSS and other terrorist group like Rama Sene authorities should look at this matter

We do not understand who is more important. A cow or a human being? The question here is if at Matting is a seller of cow, who is selling cow to him. Why not police advise the cow sellers to sell cows to the cow traders but to give it cow protector. It is disheartening to see such a charming boy died in river at 1.30 am. Is the Inspector has any right to raid a house at 1.30 am without any warrant.

Isn't it Inspector abuses the power. Sad but true the BJP rule will give more and more incidents and curse on our land of the cries of the innocent. When the similar incidents happens to the guilty to their family members then one will open their eyes. Time will not be far away for the guilty to experience the same sorrow the deceased member of Mattin.

My heart goes out for this young man and his family. Why did he have to run from Police? Was he involved in any illegal business or activities? It's not worth killing yourself over simple matters.

To arrest a cattle businessman, police went to his house at 01:30am! Some time our constitution is bitter confusing about the power of police department. Few years back also police encountered one young guy near hebri for transporting of cattles illegally.

May be some people forget it. And about the police department. Nobody can say all the police department is working for some organisation. It is only few people.

It is sad comment young man had to die because he was doing a business of cattle transport. Many a time people legally transport cattle. Hence nobody should fault them for doing it. If some one transports cattle without licence then he should be punished according to the law and not chasing him to death. It is highly condemnable on the part of the police to do that.

It is very sad to hear that police pushed a young man to death for doing cattle business. Police department in undivided DK has becoming a legal office of Sangh parivar to ute their ideology. There is no question in taking action against law breakers. But, if a person receiving encounter threat for doing cattle business, it is absurd, and frightening development in our society. In many instances licensed cattle traders have been attacked by the help of police. Everyday number of people attacked for a reason that they are belongs to particular community, and their profession is being targeted which is against Sangh parivar ideology. A country of billion people, adapted a secular constitution which provides equal rights to all. Forcible ution could create more divide which may impel us to face another level of religious conflict.
