Bengaluru: Protesters slam BJP leader Eshwarappa for anti-Christian remark, demand apology

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB)
With Inputs from Media Release

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Hundreds of Christians gathered at Gandhi Statue, Gandhinagar on Monday, April 15 to protest against BJP leader Eshwarappa who had reportedly said that ‘Christians are not honest and loyal citizens of India’.

The protest held by Karnataka Christian Social Welfare Association and prominent leaders of various Christian associations demanded an apology from Eshwarappa.

Several newspapers and visual media reporters interacted with the protestors.

Pericho Prabhu, Arun Fernandes, Edward D'Souza, FKCA chairman, and office bearers Kennedy, Dilraj Sequeira, Ida D'Cunha, Kumar Tiwari and prominent Christian leaders belonging to various political parties and different associations were present.

Eshwarappa should apologise – IFKCA

International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA) strongly condemned the statement made by BJP leader Eshwarappa who said that Christian community is not loyal to the country.

“It was against Constitution of India and secular values. His words hurt the feelings of Christian community. Therefore, Eshwarappa should apologise immediately for defaming our community,” said Lewis Lobo, honorary president of IFKCA at Udupi press club here on Monday, April 15.

Prashanth Jathanna, state president of IFKCA said, “The total Christian population of India is 2.5%, but it is contributing 10 times more to the development of the society. Whether it may be education sector, social service, health sector or other field, there are major contributions made by Christians to the society.

“Senior BJP leader L K Advani also pursued his education in Christian school. He also praised the Christian society. He never spoke against Christian community. How can we expect such defaming comments by BJP leader which is now governing with the slogan of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’.

“Christian society made revolution in education field. Christian schools have imparted education without any discrimination of caste and religion. Earlier, Eshwarappa insulted other religion also. The Christian community is not expecting ticket from you. But do not give such irresponsible statements on Christians. We hope that BJP will take action against him. He should apologise to our community,” he said.

Stevan Colaco, general secretary, Janet Barboza, president, Christian Women Okkoota, Robert Menezes, appointed president, Catholic Sabha and Prem Menezes were present.

    My apologies for the delay.
If Eshwarappa demands the closure of the embassies of all the christian countries in India , I would certainly consider him as the greatest nationalist in india in the last 500 years. Why delay it until the next election in 2024 and irritate people every day .Let us settle it once for all.

In the light of Mr. Eswarappa's comments, can he clarify on what basis BJP has given tickets to more than 10 MLA's in Goa who have won in their Ticket? Also, how come late Mr. George Fernandes was one of the close aides and associate of NDA Govt during Vajpayee's regime. Has he forgotten that? Very sad that the State President of a National Level Party, that too a ruling party in Centre opens up his mind about the party's stand towards Christians and no one condemns it.

Late George Fernandes would have definitely demanded an apology or his ouster from the party. How dare Eswarappa made this baseless statement when a senior popular Christian politician, Tom Vadakkan had recently joined BJP. All Christian members in the BJP should demand an apology from him or should leave the party.

I want to tell all my fellow Indians, today what India has achieved post Independence is only because of Education. Without education no country has ever able to get developed. Then who are the pioneers of Education System in Independent India, they are Christian missionaries. Can any non Christian deny this. No. So be grateful to Christian community who has contributed in the fields of education, health, etc. We are tolerant, silent, that does not mean anyone can take us for granted. We the Christians are always proudly say that we are the true Indians. We born, live and always love to die as true patriotic Indians. Let any tom, dick, harry and Eshwarappa say any nonsense. But it wont't change our honesty to our motherland.

Interesting..., with due apologies.., can they be called as FEKU Christians..,
My only submission is..., Instead of protesting..., they should practice - the Christian values taught & practiced by their Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

Let me recall to quote what a Christian teacher explained in good olden days during moral education time in a remote village Mission School.., to say the least that Jesus Christ preached to his followers - "Love thy neighbor, Love your enemy & then Love your God.., and Lord Jesus said further you can't love me unless first you love your neighbor & your enemy..., - which Jesus Christ practiced while he was crucified in the cross : - and the verses is - "Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing..."

I can only say that these Christians doing just a time pass....!!!!

While Eshwarappa is miserably faulting in following Etho’s REAL Hinduism - : “Vasudhaiva Kutumbam, Sarva Dharma Samabhava & Ahimsa paramo Dharma..”, there is no locus standee, that justifies this protest…,

Without prejudice..., a food for thought...,

It has become a dangerous trend worldwide to criticize, malign and desecrate Christianity and things related with it. Worldwide Christians are the most persecuted group, may be the lack of unity, on adherence to the faith and not understanding privilege of being a Christian could be a cause, we should introspect. We certainly don’t need a certificate from Eshwarappa but God above knows the Christian’s patriotism. May good sense prevail in our leaders and not polarize people based on caste and religion. Karnataka has and is a good place for minorities and let people with their unwise comments not spoil it.

Want to join our neighborhood and experience it?? You must have had some bitter experiences from my community so as I. It doesn't mean that all Christians are bad (according to you) , and all Hindus are bad (according to some Christians) . In short, my conclusion is in every aspect "good" and "bad" is there.

Election Commission should bar Eshwarappa from campaigning for 2019 elections as he has clearly violated Election Commissions Code of Conduct at least for Two times.

    1) He justified denying tickets to Christians, saying that Muslims and Christians had not been given party tickets since they were not loyal to the country. In a controversial statement, KS Eshwarappa said “Lok Sabha tickets cannot be distributed to Muslims and Christians under quota. Tickets should be given to those who are loyal to the country.”

    2) Mangaluru, Nov 11: BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Eshwarappa on Saturday November 11, while referring to the Muslim community, said that those who slaughter cows are not true Muslims, and are anti-nationals. DAIJIWORLD WEB PORTAL NEWS UPDATED ON Sat, Nov 11 2017 09:20:20 PM).

I AM STRONGLY SUGGESTING ELECTION COMMISSION TO BAR ESHWARAPPA FROM CAMPAIGNING IN 2019 ELECTIONS AS HE IS SPEAKING CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS AS ANTI-NATIONALS.
