Ex-cricketer Gautam Gambhir begins political innings with BJP, says ‘impressed by PM Modi’s vision’

New Delhi, Mar 22 (HT): Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday with weeks to go for the Lok Sabha elections.

The cricketer is likely to contest elections from one of the seven Delhi Lok Sabha seats.

With his reach of nearly nine million followers, the 37-year-old cricketer has been frequently commenting on social and security issues leading to speculation that he was planning to join politics.

He had, however, dismissed all speculation saying: “I have got a young family and I need to think about them as well because I have hardly spent any time with them. I do not want to miss their early days and let us see where I go from here.”

The former opening batsman was conferred with India’s fourth highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri award, earlier this year and received a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A resident of Rajendra Nagar in Delhi, Gambhir made his one-day international debut for the Indian national team in April 2003 against Bangladesh and went on to play 147 ODIs for the side.

His performances in the finals of the 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan and the 2011 World Cup final against Sri Lanka helped India win both the titles. And Gambhir, in the process, went on to acquire something of a cult status among Indian fans.

He also earned 58 Test caps and scored nine hundreds and 22 fifties in the longest format of the game. Gambhir’s last appearance in an Indian shirt came in 2016 but he continued plying his trade in domestic cricket. The 37-year-old announced his retirement from all forms of cricket following Delhi’s Ranji Trophy clash against Andhra last December.

This guy is a pure chaddi and fit for BJP. Even when he was playing he had a kind of very arrogant face on the field.

He used to smile hardly and had a constipated look on his face. It clealy showed utter jealousy for other players. He was practically against ever captain he played for.

Seem right from his young age he used to go to shakah

In 2007 world cup, ten the cricket Captain M. Dhoni said openly after winning the world cup, Gautham Gambir was selfish and playing for himself not for the team.
This selfish cricket, who had played for himself in cricket, how come he will serve the nation.
He had problem with Virendra Sewag who was his mentor and now both are not talking to each other.
He has problem with Virat Kohli too and yesterday he was vomiting venom against him, why RCB has not sacked Virat Kohli. Such is the mean mentality of this cricket Gautham Gambir.

Nothing surprising. All failures from Film Industry and from Cricket world, when they have no future in their respective fields, they switch over to politics. None of them have been successful politicians but some how manage to get some attention from fans. But this person Gautam does not seem to have that capacity also. BJP have dug their own grave.

Sure signs of desperation and defeatism that ia looming large over the BJP that they have to rope in cricket stars and next will be bollywood heroes and heroines.

Gambhir would now shortly that Modi's vision after five years is a total Blurred vision with the country drfting aimlessly in Auto Pilot Mode.

As predicted in my previous comments, the moment he started poking and meddling on everything, commenting unnecessary things, pro BJP messages and finally his hard work paid off. He not only recieved awards, but a BJP seat as well.

A lot of arrogance and pride, not to mention a staunch anti minority human.
He has all the essential qualities needed to join BJP.

For the time being he is a perfect figure for Bjp whose past records believed to be dominated with controversies. Someday even Bjp too will suffer embarrassment from his code of conduct.
