Mangaluru, Mar 21: Due to irresponsible revenue department, a farmer who was a beneficiary of natural disaster fund had to pay fine as the cheque given to him bounced twice.

Bhasker, a farmer from Kairangala Koppala had received a cheque of Rs 800 as compensation after 25 arecanut and two coconut trees were uprooted due to incessant rains. He had complained to the village accountant about it and had spent Rs 300 for filing the complaint.

However, when the farmer first received the cheque at HDFC bank, the bank officials sent him back for not getting Tahshildar's signature on the cheque. The bank had deducted Rs 236 as fine. When the farmer went to verify the cheque at Mini Vidhana Soudha, he was given another cheque stating that they had some issues as another Tahshildar was appointed.

The cheque once again bounced and the farmer had to pay Rs 236 as fine. Hence, to get Rs 800 compensation, the farmer has lost Rs 772 including fine and other amount he paid for filing application.
