Mangaluru: Early Learning Centre Kindergarten wins award for Innovation in Curriculum

Media release

Mangaluru, Mar 21: The prestigious Education World magazine has awarded Early Learning Centre (ELC) as one of India’s promising preschools of the future with special recognition for innovation in curriculum.

This is the second time that ELC is winning this award and it is the only school in Mangaluru that has been granted an award in this category.

ELC is based on the four elements approach where children are encouraged to self-direct their learning at an early age. Instead of teacher- directed classrooms, each classroom in ELC is filled with Montessori and other material where a child can initiate and direct his/ her learning.

ELC has the largest library for young readers in Mangaluru with a reading list of over 10,000 books. Since the child to adult ratio is 10:1, teachers are able to give the attention needed for each child. A mixed- age group which is proven to be the best learning environment for early education is implemented. Both ELC and CFAL ensure that children are actively engaged in their education, regularly challenged, properly supported and given opportunities to develop their potential.

Early Learning Centre (ELC) and Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL) have been changing the paradigm of learning in the region. Students have consistently been toppers in JEE, NEET, NTSE, KVPY, Olympiads and other entrance/ scholarship examinations. In the recent Olympiads, a CFAL student represented the country and won the silver medal for India. As opposed to passive learning that depends on the teacher, active and engaged learning is encouraged at the Centre. Strong conceptual understanding and love for learning is the focus.

ELC has initiated a teacher training module in association with Indian Montessori Centre (IMC) Bangalore to bring about a change in early education. This is one of the most prestigious certifications in India and abroad. Besides this, ELC and CFAL are collaborating with the Bharath group to establish a new ICSE school. The school will be known as The Bharath Academy and will be based in a sprawling campus at the heart of the city- at the beautiful Blueberry Hills in Mangaluru.
