Udupi, Mar 20: “Dear Mom and Dad, please exercise your franchise. Do not fall for any pressures,” reads a postcard by a student written to his parents.

However, this is not just one post card but over thousands are being written by students to their parents.

The unique postcard campaign is the effort of Udupi SVEEP committee, to motivate people to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The District ITDP department, Backward Communities department and Department of Social Welfare made students residing in hostels under its administration and ashram schools in the district, write postcard to their parents.

The postcards are being provided to children by the district SVEEP committee and students are allowed to write as many post cards they wish not just to their parents but also relatives and friends.

There are 61 hostels run by the government departments and over 5,000 students are studying in them.

The students studying pre-metric wrote letters to parents while those studying post-metric took oath to vote or enrol as voters and do their duty as soon as they attain the age.
