Bantwal, March 19: While there are indications of scarcity of drinking water during this summer, a drinking water pipe broke on B C Road, service road here on Monday causing artificial floods. The water that threw traffic out of gear entered a nearby shop also. Local people were heard cursing the municipal council.

The council had taken up repairs of the pipe on service road last week. As the work was not done properly, there was leakage in the pipe on Monday afternoon. The water flooded the service road as a consequence.

“While there is scarcity of water in several places in the council limits, the council officials did not come close. There is nobody to ask as there is no administration of elected representatives. No work gets done as administration does not respond,” the people alleged.

Though former council member Yashodha orally informed the council, the council members did not come to the spot for several hours. Water continued to flow for many hours.

In Ahmednagar farmers are desperately keeping their crop alive by pumping sewage water into the fields as majority of water bodies have gone dry; for potable water they have to travel minimum 1 km! In Pune people have been instructed to play a "dry Holi"as drought has set in & HERE precious WATER was wasted for hours by "irresponsible & uneducated" officials who man responsible posts; sorry state of affairs in a region boasting of high levels of literacy? ??
