Bengaluru: Train 18 on Mangaluru-Bengaluru route soon – Piyush Goyal

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (RJP)

Bengaluru, Feb 23: Railway minister Piyush Goyal said that the Train 18, recently renamed as Vande Bharat Express, will also be introduced on the Mangaluru-Chennai and Mangaluru-Hyderabad routes.

Speaking to media persons on Friday, February 23, during an interaction here, Goyal said the high-speed train is one of its kind developed with indigenous technology.

"We will introduce it on routes connecting major cities. An indigenously developed automatic signaling system will also be installed on these routes," he said.

“Karnataka has agreed to meet the terms of Indian Railways for building the 161 km Bengaluru suburban project at Rs 23,000 crore,” he informed.

"The project envisages building 82 stations with 12 inter-changes for the metro service in six years, and provides connectivity to the international airport as required for the special purpose vehicle (SPV)," Goyal added. He had met the chief minister H D Kumaraswamy before that.

The Ministry of Railways had, however, agreed to grant its land for the project at a nominal lease of Rs 1 per acre, reducing the cost by 30 per cent and saving Rs 6,700 crore.

The 119 conditions of the state government were acting as road blocks for commencing the suburban rail project in India's tech hub, bedeviled by grid locks, land shortage and other infrastructure woes.

"The state cabinet will meet on February 25 to approve our 19 conditions by the state government through a special resolution," said Goyal.

"The state government has also agreed for the right of FSI '5' on railway land to the railways for financing the project," said Goyal.

The air-conditioned EMU (Electrical Multiple Unit) rake is planned for suburban corridor to facilitate safe and comfortable journey to the denizens.

"The suburban rail service is much cheaper than other modes of transport like metro and bus, besides easing traffic congestion plaguing the city," Goyal added.

The minister also said that Wi-Fi facility will be extended to all railway stations within next six months.

I had seen Union Minister Piyush Goyal Twitter fake video of Train 18 copied from someone is running faster than actual capacity.
When he was power minister he uploaded Candian city claiming PM Modi's government achievement. He also posted Morroco-Spain fully lit border in the past.
How does Train 18 which runs at a top speed of 180 Kms without a proper infrastructure can negotiate western Ghat section which came to halt during last years floods?
I would rather say reduced the airfare and make the Mangaluru-Bengaluru travel easy. It will save the travel time and traffic woes of the city.
The unit cost of the first rake was given as ₹100 crore (US$14 million) it doesn't seem economical to run in this sector.
The safety should be given first priority. We Kannadigas don't want to board a train with faulty brakes knowingly western Ghat derailment only takes them to paradise.

Train 18 can run only with electric power. Mangalore Bangalore route is not an electric route. So it's a purely Political Gimmick.

Both Train 18s from Mangalore to Chennai and Hyderabad will pass via Bangalore which means there will be 2 trains to Bangalore. I think instead of Hyderabad it should have been to Mumbai, considering the volume of passengers on the route.

Some of the comments are unwarranted, don't blindly find fault, appreciate the good being done irrespective of Party or Releigious affiliations. Mr. Piyush Goyal is a well educated, ( a chartered accountan by profession) well bred individual. He has worked wonders as the Railway minister in the current BJP.. he is a Visionary and a down to earth person who knows his job. I must add that his is the only Ministry that seems to be working independently... Mr. Gadakari too performs.. back to the article, Karnataka will benefit immensely from this new project, only hope it will be approved... For this each Minister / MLA in the coalition will see how much they can amass in the bargain.. for them the voters comes last in their scheme of things...
