LG reviews poll readiness of Delhi Police


New Delhi, Feb 21 (IANS): Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal here on Thursday asked the police to take steps to check movement of illicit cash and liquor.

"The LG directed Delhi Police to take stern steps to check movement of illicit cash and liquor," the Raj Niwas said in a statement.

During a meeting held to review the preparedness of Delhi Police for upcoming general elections, Baijal said the assessment of force requirement should be meticulously done, and MHA and other concerned agencies be suitably informed well in advance.

Baijal also said the Delhi Police should focus on efficient control room management for effective and timely redressal of complaints, regarding violation of the model code of conduct during the election.

He said coordination with neighbouring states and districts be ensured for free, fair and smooth election process.

"Delhi Police also informed that with the announcement of the election dates, it will intensify action against defacement of property, misuse of vehicles and loudspeakers, seizure of illicit cash/items meant for bribing voters/other electoral malpractices," the Raj Niwas said.
