Udupi: Monkey fever - three more monkeys found dead in district

Udupi, Feb 21: On Wednesday, three more monkeys were found dead in the district. Out of them, postmortem was performed on the carcass of a monkey found at Ampar, Shankarnarayana. The other two bodies found in Hosangady, Siddapur and Kondangodu, Karje, were decomposed.

The work of fever survey, spreading awareness about Kyasanur Forest Disease, also known as monkey fever, and distribution of DMP oil was undertaken at ST colony at Posanottu, Kukkundoor.

On Wednesday, field workers visited 3,144 houses located in 79 hamlets and surveyed them for possible presence of monkey fever symptoms. So far the survey has covered 95,498 homes.

Blood samples of 41 people were sent to the laboratory so far, and all of them have tested negative.
