Indians helped build Saudi Arabia for decades: Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman

New Delhi, Feb 20 (IT): Indians have helped build Saudi Arabia for 70 years and are seen in the kingdom as friends, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said on Wednesday as he received a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

"Today we want to be sure that this relation is maintained and improved for the sake of both countries," the Crown Prince said, flanked by President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Mohammed bin Salman arrived in Delhi last night after wrapping up a trip to Pakistan, where he said Saudi Arabia had signed investment agreements worth $20 billiion. Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed him at the airport.

Saudi Arabia is India's top supplier of crude oil, but the two countries have expanded ties beyond energy and their governments have agreed to build a strategic partnership, India's Ministry of External Affairs has said.

India is expecting Mohammed bin Salman to announce an initial investment in its National Investment and Infrastructure Fund to help accelerate the building of ports and highways, an Indian official and Saudi state media have said.

Mohammed bin Salman's tour through the region is his first since the outcry over the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, a journalist, at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul last year.

He is due to also visit China, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Mr Najm us Saquib, Byndoor/Dammam, has made some valid points below.

I have a couple of Saudi friends. According to them, the Saudis have always treated Indians (regardless of religion) as part of family. But the same feelings are not shared with other immediate neighbours of India (despite what the people of the neighbourhood think).

When King Abdulaziz Al Saud wanted to build a modern Saudi Arabia, he preferred the Saudis living in India to lead that modernisation. And, by extension, the king favoured Indians for many things.

But they also maintained a political alignment with USA. This alignment meant they ended up on the opposing side (to India) during the cold war years. Then came the terrible events of 1979.

Indians must remember that Pakistan, despite the Saudi request, did not send a section of the army for the war in Yemen. (Unofficially, there are Pakistanis serving there). Add to this the well-known drugs courier business by our neighnours to the kingdom. So, despite all the words of MBS, our neighbours are not well-liked in the kingdom.

Peter S.Udipi,I would say SA should be grateful to Indians ,because those days where there were hardly any other people there to work.Saudis were not so much educated or didnt want to work hard that time,as I remember. As I was small our neighbours had worked hard and telling hardships. Those days saudis never dreamt of hard times coming to them .Now they have realized situation ,educated, made it a modern state. That time it was hard to travel to saudi. But many grabbed a good amount gold money. Our Indian people worked hard there.

Thanks God, MBS clearly declared :

"Indians have helped build Saudi Arabia for 70 years and are seen in the kingdom as friends,"

Otherwise all credit would have been taken by just one person, and you all know whom am referring to.

Long live Indo / Saudi relationship.

Do remember, Saudi Arabia is home to an Indian community of more than 2.7 million.
It has given many Indian's employment . For an example, In Saudi Aramco there are many Engineers working in different fields.

Is it possible North America to Import Gas to India ? They will charge very very high. For the Asian country to rise, we should be united.

Currently, there is joint announcement by Modiji and MBS on various projects as strategic partner . Common, why are you so jealous. You might be having PR of Canada. However, not for all. Here is Saudi, Normal labor from earns around 3,000SR ( 50 thousand rupees ) plus accommodation .

For many construction projects, and various other projects Engineers, Consultant's, accoutants etc etc are from India .

Come out of closed environment of "So Called Canada " and do something for society.

One more thing, North America has only reserves of Gas. But not crude oil production.

$44Billion Project signed on refinery at Maharashtra, which provides more employment to Indian's in India...

Petrol is called Gas in North America...

USA is highest crude oil producer in the world now ...second is Russia...third is Saudi Arabia...

Natural Gas and Coal...US has reserves which are enough for next 300 years...very little crude will be used after 20-30 years...they will use less polluting energy sources like Battery and Hydrogen...

People don't have a good opinion about Saudi's in North America...especially due to human rights...you never lived in a true free country...so perhaps you don't understand...never mind...enjoy your stay...

What a lovely analysis . Appreciate. However, what is the benefit with these reserves from North America to India ? A Big Zero !!!!.. They reserved for their benefits.

Below are the top crude oil supplier to India :-
    1. Iraq
    2. Iran
    3.Saudi Arabia.

Once $44BN project kick starts at Maharashtra, Saudi Arabia will number one . In parallel, it provides jobs to thousand s of Indian's in India for the livelihood.

Also, there are thousand of Indian engineers ( From All religions ) working in Saudi Aramco.

Do they give permanent residence to 2.7 millions or shelter refugees. It is great gesture by crown prince but it took decades to recognise Indians contributions as the oil demand and the price becoming very low. Oil rich countries never look at India for the last 7 decades and now because of Modi's dynamic leadership and the strong relation has made them to look at the pride of rising India.

Is there any biggest terrorist country than America? It supports anyone if it benefits it's policy of money making and arms selling. And when I say America I am not against any American citizen in general. I refer to the American government.

But our PM broke protocol and went to.the airport to receive the Crown Prince. But in case of Justin Tudeau, the PM of Canada; not even a Union Minister was sent to receive him during his last visit to India. Why so? Especially when our Modiji can go to unofficial visit to Pakistan to greet Happy Birthday to Nawaz Sharif? Can we fight terrorism by demonstrating these dual behaviours?

Once upon a time when the Boom to Gulf started Saudi Arabia made a strict visa rules that Muslims only should be recruited from India.

However Later Prime Minister Indira Gandhiji categorically and strictly reiterated to the Saudi Rulers and to the Immigration saying if you wanted India's skilled and non-skilled labourers you have to recruit equal numbers of Hindus, Christians, Buddhists and Sikhs along with Muslims.

LATER THE SAUDI AND INDIAN RULERS AGREED MUSLIMS ONLY TO MECCA AND MADINA AND TO THE REST OF SAUDI ARABIA EQUAL HINDUS, CHRISTIANS, BUDDHISTS, SIKHS JAINS AND MUSLIMS.

THE MOST DANGEROUS EXPATRIATES IN SAUDI ARABIA WERE BANGLADESHIS, PAKISTANIS, EGYPTIANS AND INDONESIANS.
    THEY WERE NUMBER ONE PRO-MUSLIMS.

PRESENTLY MOST OF THE EXPATRIATES ARE REPLACED WITH SAUDI'S .

IT IS THEIR COUNTRY AND THEY WANTED THEIR NATIONALS TO PROSPER IN THEIR COUNTRY.

I AGREE TO THEIR INTENTIONS FOR THEIR NATIONALS TO PROSPER IN THEIR OWN COUNTRY.

If it happens we will be isolated from Cricket World too and pak will benefit . .Rremoving photos of Pak Dignitories and boycotting the artists and increasing pak Goods taxes are all rediculous and will only increase enemity and no benefit for India . Artists are friends of India and they are not our enemies. Not a single country has properly supported us after attack except Lip service. Countries like Russia and Israel have not come strongly in support of us. Countries like Afhan/Iran are the only countries who have supported But For a superpower like India are we dependent on Countries like Afghan/iran ? Afghan is bleeding from crisis and Iran is Banned by USA. 3 Years Progress in Kashmir was curbed Due To BJPs friendship with PDP .PDP Had soft corner towards Evil Elements. Surely we need to protect our soldiers. With policy of current Regime it appears to be this is very difficult . Money spent on statues, publicity, image building could have put to uplift the condition of our Jawans, buying them bullet proof buses. Our farmers are committing suicides and both the parties did not give attention to this major issue.
