Udupi: Four more monkeys die in rural areas

Udupi, Feb 18: On Sunday February 17, four more monkeys were found dead in the rural belt of the district. Two decomposed bodies of monkeys were recovered from near Siddapur in Kundapur taluk while two monkeys died on account of accidents at Karje and Kukkundoor.

Health department officials said that the work of conducting survey about prevalence of fever and creating awareness about monkey fever are continuing in rural places.

In the meantime, Puttur taluk health officer, Dr Ashok Kumar Rai, confirmed that out of monkeys which died at several places within this taluk, samples had been sent for testing. He said that three reports have been received, and they have tested negative for the presence of monkey fever virus.These reports pertain to carcasses found in Addahole in Shiradi village, Haleneranki in Koila village and Kaniyoor.
