Brahmavar, Feb 18: In a strange incident which happened at Bobbaryanakere near Mabukala in the taluk on the night of Sunday February 17, a lady suffered severe burn injuries. In this incident, a stack of hay was also reduced to ashes. It is being claimed that this incident happened on account of explosion of a mobile phone the lady was holding at the time.

The injured lady happens to be Ashwini Marakalthi (26), daughter of Jalaja Marakalthi, a local.

Ashwini had married a youth from Malpe two months back. She was on a visit to her parental home on Sunday to take part in local festival celebrations. In the evening, she was speaking on her mobile phone when it is said, the phone suddenly exploded. Overtaken by fear, she immediately threw the phone at the stack of hay, neighbours stated.

When people from nearby houses rushed to the spot they saw that the lady has sustained serious burn injuries and was lying unconscious. Her mother too had become very ill. With help from locals, the injured lady was admitted into a hospital at Mangaluru while the mother was treated in a nearby clinic, locals said. Full details of the incident are yet to be made known.

Firemen arrived on the spot later and with support from locals, put off the flames.
