Bengaluru: Feud in resort - After lying low, DCM acquires aggressive posture

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Congress party had initially tried to keep under wraps the ugly fight between two of its legislators, Anand Singh and J N Ganesh, at Eagleton Resort, Bidadi in a bid to patch up things. Now it appears that the party has decided to own aggressive posture in the matter. It took its own sweet time to suspend Kampli MLA, J N Ganesh, who had left Anand Singh badly beaten and bruised. The party had also not openly condemned Ganesh immediately after the incident.

Close on the heels of home minister, M B Patil, and chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy, saying that there is no room for leniency in the matter and the guilty would not be spared, comes the statement of deputy chief minister (DCM), Dr G Parameshwar, condemning Ganesh for the incident. "With this incident, politics has reached its nadir. Such incidents are sure to scare youngsters away from politics," he noted.

"I have had a long innings in politics so far but I am yet to see it reaching such low levels. It depicts loss of values. I wish that such a thing did not happen. Is this the kind of example we are setting for the next generation? If we, the legislators, behave the way these two did, would we be able to advise youngsters to improve their own behaviour? People can get driven away from politics because of these incidents. In public life, we have the responsibility of keeping ourselves away from controversies and bad behaviour," he felt.

When the media persons pointed out to him that MLA Ganesh is missing he said that the police will find him in a day or two. "The police are compelled to find him as investigation into first information report has begun. They will find him and take action as per law. Our party, on its part, has constituted an enquiry committee in to look into the incident, and Ganesh has been suspended," he said. Parameshwar heads this committee.

On reported claim of six Congress MLAs having decided to change loyalties, Parameshwar said that he does not have any such information and dubbed it as some kind of speculation. "We will take steps once someone says that he or she wants to quit the party," he clarified.
