Puttur: Diamond jubilee celebrations begin with Eucharistic celebrations at St Philomena College

Puttur, Jan 23: The grand finale of diamond jubilee programme of St Philomena College began with solemn Eucharistic celebrations on Tuesday, January 22 at Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall.

The former secretary of CBE and parish priest of Shakthi Nagar, Mangaluru Fr Gerald D’Souza participated as the main celebrant. In his blessings, he said, “Let this institution still rise to higher level with the joint efforts of all the stakeholders.”

Assistant parish priest of Mudipu Church Fr Shawn Rodrigues, in his homily said, “God is merciful and graceful with his multitude of blessings. St Philomena College is the witness for this.”



The various guest priests participated in this programme are Fr Peter Serrao of Delanthabettu, Fr Francis Assisi Almeida of Bishop’s House, Fr John D’Souza, parish priest of Nidpally Church, Fr PrashanthFernandes, parish priest of Bannur Church, Fr Valerian Frank, parish priest of Maril Church, Fr Edwin Correa, parish priest of Permude Church, Fr Benjamin Pinto, parish priest of Mudipu Church, Fr Anil Lobo, parish priest of Panja Church, Fr Jenson Charlie, seminary professor, Fr Vincent D’Souza, parish priest of Sullia Church, Fr Vishal Monis, parish priest of Peruvai Church, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, Olavinahalli Chaplain and Fr Prakash D’Souza, parish priest of Manela Church.

Campus director Fr Dr Antony Prakash Monteiro, principal of St Philomena PU College Fr Vijay Lobo, coordinator of PG Department of Commerce Fr Rithesh Rodrigues, assistant professor of PG department of Commerce Fr George Sunil D’Souza, Fr Peter Gonsalves and Fr Valerian Mascarenhas participated in the holy Eucharistic celebrations.

The faculty, administrative staff, alumni, parents, students and well-wishers of the College participated in this programme. Principal Prof Leo Noronha rendered the vote of thanks.

Grand finale of diamond jubilee

The grand finale of diamond jubilee celebrations of St Philomena College will be held from January 22 to 24 at college quadrangle.

The celebrations will begin with ‘Solemn Eucharistic’ on January 22 at 10 am in Silver Jubilee Memorial Hall of the College.

The PTA and Alumni Day celebrations will be organized at 4.30 PM on January 22 in college quadrangle. The former vicar general of Mangaluru diocese Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu will preside. The judge of high court of Karnataka Justice Mohammed Nawaz will be the chief guest. The DGM of Vijaya Bank, regional office, Hubli Baptist Lobo, director of Physical Education, Mangalore University Dr Kishor Kumar C K, chartered accountant of M Jagannath Kamath & Co, Kodialbail, Mangaluru CA Jagannath M Kamath and Industrialist at Mysuru SubramanyaRai will participate as guests of honour.

The Institutions Day will be celebrated on January 23at 10 AM in College Quadrangle. The Bishop of Bellary diocese Dr Henry D’Souza will preside. The vicar general of Mangaluru diocese Maxim L Noronha will participate as the chief guest. The MP of Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency Shobha Karandlaje, MLC of South West Teachers’ Constituency, Dakshina Kannada Bhoje Gowda S L, registrar of Mangalore University Dr A M Khan, registrar (Evluation) of Mangalore University Dr Ravindrachary V, former MLA of Mangaluru South constituency J R Lobo, former MLA of Puttur constituency Shakunthala T Shetty, former MLA of Kaup Constituency Vinaya Kumar Sorake and former MLC of South West Teachers’ Constituency, Dakshina Kannada Capt Ganesh Karnik will be the guests of honour.

The finale of diamond jubilee celebrations will be held on January 24 at 10 AM in college quadrangle. The Bishop of Mangaluru diocese Dr Peter Paul Saldanha will preside. The Higher Education Minister, government of Karnataka Deve Gowda G T will be the chief guest. The minister for Urban Development and Housing & district in-charge minister of Dakshina Kannada U T Khader, MP of Dakshina Kannada Nalin Kumar Kateel, vice chancellor (in-charge) of Mangalore University Prof Ishwara P, MLA of Puttur Constituency Sanjeeva Matandoor, secretary of Catholic Board of Education Fr Antony Shera, joint director of Collegiate Education, Mangaluru Dr Appaji Gowda and DDPU, Mangaluru Elveera Philomena will participate as guests of honour.
