Bengaluru, Jan 19: A day after they were sworn in, eight newly appointed parliamentary secretaries were served with notices by the state high court on Friday January 18.

The high court, which took up a petition questioning the action of the chief minister in appointing some MLAs and MLCs as new parliamentary secretaries, ordered issuance of notices to all the eight parliamentary secretaries, chief secretary of the state government and the secretary in the department of parliamentary affairs.

The petition was filed by M B Adinarayana. The petition argues that these appointments violate article 164 (1-A) of the constitution and therefore asked for these parliamentary secretaries to be sacked. The notification should be stayed till the petition is disposed off, the petitioner had prayed.

It came before a division bench comprising interim Chief Justice, L Narayana Swamy and Justice Arvind Kumar. The bench, after hearing the petition, ordered issuance of notices to all the defendants.

Eight parliamentary secretaries had been appointed by the chief minister and the department of parliamentary affairs had issued notification about it on January 7.
