Bengaluru: Congress MLAs, MPs head to Eagleton Resort to escape BJP’s onslaught

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru. Jan 18: In a new twist to the political drama in the wake of "Operation Lotus", the Congress in Karnataka on Friday shifted 76 of its MLAs to a private resort outside the city accusing the BJP of trying to poach them to destabilise the state's JD(S)-Congress coalition government.

The Congress devised the new strategy after a meeting of the legislature party where four MLAs, said to be dissidents, had absented despite threats of disqualification.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is indulging openly in horse-trading and is trying to bring down the (JD-S-Congress) coalition government by hook or crook," Congress state unit president Dinesh Gundu Rao told the media here.

Rao was speaking to reporters after the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meet at the Vidhana Soudha in the city centre.

"We need to have all our MLAs in one place and deliberate with them on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. So we are all going to the resort," Rao said.

The meeting saw the attendance of 76 of the party's 80 MLAs, CLP leader Siddaramaiah told the media.

The four absent legislators were Umesh Jadhav of Chincholi Assembly segment in Kalaburagi district, Ramesh Jarkiholi from Gokak constituency in Belagavi district, B. Nagendra from Ballari segment and Mahesh Kumathalli from Athani constituency in Belagavi district.

"Those who were absent will be issued notices seeking their explanation," Siddaramaiah asserted.

Two of them Umesh and Nagendra could not be present for the meet due to personal reasons, the party said.

"Umesh had sent a letter that he is unwell and could not travel, while Nagendra could not be present due to some court-related work," Siddaramaiah added.

While exuding confidence over the party lawmakers' support, Siddaramaiah alleged that the BJP's national leaders, including national president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were behind the attempt to "destabilise" the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S)-Congress coalition government.

"BJP has been trying to come to power through undemocratic means and has kept its own legislators locked up in Gurugram, Haryana. Their central leaders Shah and Modi were also involved in the attempt to gain power in Karnataka," the Congress leader claimed.

The party was not afraid of any "Operation Lotus" to topple the government, he added.

"Our legislators were offered crores of rupees by the BJP to join the party in exchange for cabinet posts," Siddaramaiah alleged.

The Congress decision to pack its MLAs to a resort near here comes in the midst of a similar sequestering of its MLAs by the BJP in a five-star hotel in Gurugram near the national capital for the last four days.

The BJP, however, has rejected Congress allegations of attempts to destabilise the Kumaraswamy government.

Meanwhile CLP leader Siddaramaiah has sought explanation from 4 MLAS who skipped the CLP meeting.

Out of 80 MLAs, four - Nagendra B, Ramesh Jarakiholi, Umesh Jadhav and Mahesh Kumtalli did not turn up.

The Indian democracy for the part of Kannadigas has reduced to 'resort' levels. The BJP has taken the people's mandate to the level of brothels. The autonomous Election Commission of India seems to be paralyzed. The value of 'People's Representative Act,1951 has been reduced to the levels of 'Toilet Papers'. The poor voters paid for days liquor and MLA's are offered Crores.

In 2014 BJP has promised the nation 'Corruption free' India. But the heart of the corruption in Democracy remains to the highest levels. If the polices are failing and schemes are not reaching because taxpayers money meant for the poor of this nation is routed to the MLA's for buying.

The operation Kamlas of BJP has taken the state which is once known for IT industry, Banking, E-mandi, Nano agriculture is known only in headlines for the political circus.

Perhaps only reason for this defections and resort politics is the poor 'Anti-Defection laws'. The MLA's are brought and sold like pimps selling the girls to the brothels. But those girls sell themselves for a living, whereas MLA's do it for political surveillance.

For the Kannadigas part, another Jammu and Kashmir ruined government is in waiting to have experimented in Yogi's Uttar Pradesh way.

RIP! Peoples Representative Act of India.
    Jai Hind

An undertaking should be taken from the lawmakers that they will not withdraw support after government has been formed.

I strongly recommend anti detection law whereas any MLA or MP can not defect to some other party whatever may be the reason. If does liable to disqualification. This will serve a warning to everybody. I wonder this children's play of the political parties at the cost of tax payers money which creates unnecessary headlines in the news channels should stop. Such game should not be allowed by any political party.

The recent development in Karnataka is really very sad. BJP's game plan to poach Congress MLAs is sending a wrong message for a healthy democracy. Even Congress and JDS also may try to poach BJP lawmakers once they leave their resorts. Things will become very murkier in the coming days. Development of the state will surely suffer. This will affect the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. We pray and hope that our politicians will become sincere and honest, and work for the people. Jai Jind.

Need to change Constitute about elected candidates. Once the candidates are elected they must serve for the party from which they got elected. If they changed they must disqualify and should not allow them to contest the next ten years. Same time the CM/PM must select a direct candidate from local as temporary MP/MLA for the remaining period.
