Udupi: 17th state junior handball championship meet inaugurated

Udupi, Jan 18: The three-day 17th state level junior handball championship meet that is being organized under the joint auspices of Udupi district handball association and Karnataka handball association was inagurated at the Mahathma Gandhi Open-air auditorium, Beedinagudde on Friday, January 18.

Speaking after inagurating the meet, Janardhan Tonse, district Congress president, said, "In Volleyball and Throwball several rural sportspersons of our district have brought glory to our district. In the same manner we have to take this sport of handball to the rural areas. That is why the parents have to encourage their children to take up this sport."

The guests of the event included district BJP president, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, entrepreneur Suresh Shetty Gurme, district physical education officer Madhukar Roshan Kumar, Handball association state secretary, M K Nagendra, zonal physical education officer, Shekhar Patil, treasurer Nirupama Prasad Shetty, Raghavendra and Sairadha Developers Manohar Shetty.



The function was presided over by Kishan Hegde Kolkebailu. Alevoor Harish Kini welcomed the gathering. The programme was compered by Srikant Samant. Sudarshan Nayak rendered the vote of thanks.

21 boys and 12 girls teams have arrived for the competition from various districts of the state. 25 state-level referees are also taking part in the competition.
