Mumbai: Man from Panemangalore catches thief who drugged, robbed him in train

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai (SP)

Mumbai, Jan 17: In a surprising incident, a person who had become the victim of drugging and robbery when travelling by train, succeeded in catching hold of one of the thieves two weeks after the incident. The person who did this adventure has been identified as Rajesh Kulal (31) from Panemangalore, Bantwal.

Rajesh is a metro-based electrical contractor. He nabbed the thief on Monday. Rajesh, who had caught a local train at Bhayandar to work, saw three persons in that train. He recollected that two among them were the ones who offered him biscuit in the train, consumption of which had caused him to fall unconscious. Immediately he held the shirt collar of one among the men and questioned him about the robbery. The other two immediately jumped out of the train and fled. With help from co-passengers, he succeeded in handing over the man to the police. The thief was identified as Deepak Sahu (35) from Madhya Pradesh. The police said that he is an active member of a gang.

Rajesh Kulal

Rajesh had left Mumbai to Mangaluru on December 29 , 2018 for celebrating the birthday of his wife. As air fares had gone sky-high on account of New Year, he had started his journey at the last minute by train. He was travelling in the general compartment of Jamnagar express train as he hoped to get a seat at Ratnagiri.

When Rajesh spoke to his friends in the next compartment and returned to his seat, he saw three other men were also seated there. At around 6 pm, the men offered biscuits to Rajesh. After consuming biscuits and drinking water, Rajesh became unconscious. He was robbed of Rs 15,000 in cash, credit and debit cards, and two cell phones.

He was then taken out of the train at Kasargod railway station and sent back by a train going to Mangaluru central station. The next morning, he was found in an unconscious state in the railway platform at Mangaluru. His rib was injured due to the fall in the platform. The railway police got him treated at Wenlock Hospital there. Rajesh regained conscience three days later and then filed complaint in Mangaluru central railway station.

Rajesh says that the experience of being unconscious was like meeting death. He said he caught the thief as the agony and frustration he went through were haunting him. He said that the other two also could have been caught if the co-passengers had acted immediately. The thieves looked decent and in ordinary course no one would believe that they could be thieves, he said.

Rajesh Kulal is brave but not smart. He knows this is not the first case of drugging and robing in Bombay Mangalore line. I would refuse even if a Catholic Nun offers me any eatables on the train - no matter how decent they look. Money is not a big deal but the drug is dangerous to health in a longer run.

I salute Ralesh Kullal for taking daring but risky step in catching thieves. I don't think Rajesh will get his money back. These thrives will be out very soon and will start their robbery again since corrupt railway police are hand in glov with the robbers. There should be clear instructions ( notice)in each compartment mentioning not to take any eatables from co passengers or announcement along with train departure announcements. Also cctv camera in each compartment . Do you think these robbers have tickets?i

Congratulations to Rajesh for catching the thief.sad other two escaped.I really appriciate your courage to catchhold the fellow.Otherside it was really dangerous to do this first alone without help.Because nowadays people carry weapons or sharp weapons who then stich when they face danger.Still It went well and was caught without problem. One should be careful nowadays when such adventures to undertake.

Accepting food offered by total strangers in the train itself is the biggest blunder.

If they steal money material or cards it's not much problem. If given drugs over...than it will affect passenger's health and even become fatal. Should be given hard punishment to them.

Great & courageous job by Rajesh. Now police duty to catch the remaining team members.
There are so many incidents of passengers in train were being intoxicated by offering biscuits or snack. High time travelers learn from others mistakes.
Police must reward him with some token benefit.

Congratulations Rajesh for your efforts in nabbing these culprits. This is their regular habit. Train Passengers of this train please note, if anybody offers you biscuits or food in the train, do not accept, instead ask them the consume first. This will show their true colors.
