Goa Congress gears up by for Assembly by-polls, Rahul visit

Panaji, Jan 15 (IANS): The Congress in Goa on Tuesday resolved to finalize booth and ward level committees ahead of Assembly by-polls and the visit of party President Rahul Gandhi to the state expected later this month, a party spokesperson said.

At a meeting of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee held here on Tuesday, members also congratulated Goa archbishop Filipe Neri Ferrão on his election as President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India last week.

Rahul Gandhi is expected to visit Goa by the end of the month to address Congress ward and booth presidents "and the preparation for the same has been discussed in the meeting", chief spokesperson Sunil Kawthankar told reporters on Tuesday in Panaji.

By-elections to two Assembly constituencies have been necessitated after two Congress MLAs representing the two constituencies quit their legislatorship as well as the party to join the BJP in October.
