Chicago, Dec 17: The Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association (MKCA) celebrated its 17th annual Christmas Celebration at St Hubert’s Church Hall at Hoffman Estates, Illinois.  In Konkani language, it is popularly called as Nathal Fest, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.  Christmas is celebrated by all the Christians worldwide on December 25.

There was general Holy Eucharist, celebrated by Fr Mike Scherchel, where the MKCA members and guests attended. The cultural programme was initiated by the welcome note from the president of MKCA, Vissia D’Souza. In her welcome address, she introduced her executive committee to the audience and requested audience to come forward in organizing a new executive committee for the next two years.  She thanked her committee, members and guests for their staunch support in the success of several annual programmes. She thanked the parish priest, Fr Mike Scherchel and presented a check to him for his generosity in providing the venue.  All the audience enjoyed the ethnic appetizers.

The past president of MKCA, Dr Austin Prabhu asked the audience to come forward in forming a new executive committee.  Members volunteered in forming an executive committee under the leadership of John Dias (incoming president).  Lancy D’Souza, vice-president, Patcy Lasrado, secretary, and Roopa Misquita, joint secretary, are the members of the new executive committee. The members and children present sang Christmas Carols, under the leadership of Concy Mesquita.  The grand entry of Santa Claus (Dr Austin Prabhu) during the carol of Jingle Bells, thrilled young children present.  Santa Clause entertained the children present with Christmas gifts. The audience present took pictures with Santa.

Looks like it was a wonderful celebration. So many happy new faces. Congratulations to John Dias, the president elect/select and all the new committee members. John Dias, a real estate magnate, is a founding member and instrumental in organizing MKCA. Lancy D'Souza, Patcy Lasrado and Roopa Misquita are also highly talented.

The outgoing committee under the leadership of Vissia D'Souza has done a commendable job steering the Association in a right direction overcoming all the turbulence. Being a founding member, I am very proud of MKCA.

Thanks for the great leadership Vissia and the team.
