One killed in Bengal blaze

Kolkata, Dec 16 (IANS): A fire broke out in an illegal firecracker workshop in West Bengal's West Midnapore district on Sunday, killing the owner, police said.

Banamali Adok, 40, the owner of the workshop was burnt to death in the incident, a police officer said.

The one-storey building, where the crackers were stored, was completely gutted in the fire.

Local residents alleged that the owner was running the workshop inside the locality for many years without any license.

"We are investigating the cause of the blaze. It is not sure whether there was any explosion. We will also probe what kind of crackers were being made in the workshop," the police officer added.
