Mangaluru, Dec 16: Fr Willam Menezes, parish priest, Angelore Parish was honoured with `Outstanding Community Leaders of Mangalore’ award by Max and Jessie Rasquinha at a glittering function at Angelore Church Hall on Sunday, December 16.

In recognition of his dedicated service to society and for his leadership in promoting inter religious harmony, he was chosen for the award.

The award is constituted by International Institute for Public Policy (IIPP) established by NRI of Mangaluru origin and philanthropist couple Max and Jessie Rasquinha, who have settled in Houston/Dallas, USA.

Presenting the award Max Rasquinha said, “Fr William is known for his social service and especially for his concern towards poor and needy. He has served as administrator of Fr Father Muller Charitable Institutions and then as PRO and estate manager of Mangaluru Diocese. During his tenure, he proved his capacity as an able administrator. He always stood for the poor and exploited. He is eligible for appreciation and it is our duty to show generosity on him.”

Receiving the award Fr William said, “I didn’t believe when I was told that I have been selected for the award. But bishop emeritus Aloysius Paul called me and congratulated me with his inspirational words. That time I told him that I am not interested in any awards. But he compelled me to receive the award and he motivated me stating that my service is recognized by society.”

“Social service is a part of my life. Through my service I can convey the message of god to the people. Service is the best prayer and I am doing that. I am thankful to Max and Jessie Rasquinha for choosing me for this award. Same time I thank all my supporters, well wishers and parishioners. Without you I cannot do anything, “he said.

Roshan Patrao, vice president, Parish Council, welcomed the dignitaries and gathering. Dora Rodrigues, secretary, Parish Council briefed the service history of Fr William.

Melwyn Peris sang melodious song dedicated to Fr William.

Max and Jessie Rasquinha are keen followers of all the developments taking place in their beloved home town of Mangaluru.

Thank you, Fr. Willian Menezes, for accepting our humble award of Recognition for all that you have dedicated so far to our Community and Society of Mangalore. As I had told the public several months ago, you truly deserved this humble Award from us for all that you have dedicated so far for the community of Mangalore.

As I had told Bishop Aloysius several months ago, you highly deserved the transfer to Nagori Church, a vibrant and active Parish of Mangalore where thrives an able community of Catholics who are dedicating so much for the entire Diocese.

The Eucharistic celebration that was conducted to you at Nagori Church was impressive indeed. The Choir conducted under the leadership of Shriman Melwyn Peris was simply praiseworthy. Melwyn Peris even composed a special song in Konkany in honor of Fr. William Menezes was extremely praiseworthy. Thank you Melwyn for all your musical contribution to the Nagori Parish as well as to the community.

I have known Father William for several decades as a good and generous person, straightforward in his dealings and above a devout ecclesiastic.

Fr William is well known for his social service and especially for his concern towards poor and needy. He did a great job as an administrator of Father Muller's Charitable Institutions. As a P.R.O. of of the Diocese he did a commendable job. During his tenure, he proved his capacity as an able administrator. He always stood for the cause of the poor and underprivileged. He more than deserves the award provided by The Trust headed by Mr. and Mrs. Max Rasquinha.

I join several others in congratulating Father Willie.

Kudos to you Father Willie and may this award be a forerunner of many more to follow.
