Bottled water unsafe in Mangaluru? Daijiworld sting operation exposes mafia

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Oct 27: This is shocking news for all those who use packaged mineral water. Daijiworld, in its sting operation, has uncovered a scam where mineral water tanks at the factories are filled with water directly from municipality water taps. Then they are sent in bottles to the market as packaged drinking or mineral water.

The operation also revealed that there is nothing like pure or added minerals in these bottles. During the week-long operation, it also came to light that more than eight unlicensed ‘water purifying plants’ in the city are throwing all norms to winds and are supplying polluted water that affects people’s health in a big way.

Images captured by hidden cameras

To expose the fake water purifying plants and bring awareness among public, a special undercover team from Daijiworld, in the name of clients, visited some unlicensed water purifying plant premises.

During the first day of the sting operation, an owner of a plant declined to deal with the team as the team members were strangers to him.

But subsequent contacts with this owner made him confident to deal with the team, which helped Daijiworld to expose the racket.

Soon after the visit, the water purifying plant owner confessed that he has unlicensed dealers all over the district and runs his business illegally. He said that up to 1,000 bottles of 20 litres having different brand labels with fake ISI mark on them are sold every day.

During the operation, the hidden camera from Daijiworld captured the video of how water from normal taps is filled into bottles. Drivers from different places come to this place with bottles of various prominent brands and get the water filled in these bottles, which is later sold in the markets. One bottle costs Rs 25 and in market it is sold at Rs 70.

The owner revealed that majority of catering companies and hotels are associated with them and they use these bottles.

In order to hide from public and also from government officials, these companies run their illegal business before 6 am in the morning and after 7 pm.

They only sell water to those people who possess authorised ID cards and visiting cards of certain brands.

The place, which Daijiworld team visited, where water was being filled, is in pathetic condition with a lot of muck next to the tap which is completely unhygienic.

In case any customer demands water bottles with any particular brand, they also provide the same.

This has turned out to be a big scam in the city as there are more chances of such illegal businesses coming up during summer. Such scams can bring nightmare to the public from the health point of view.

Due to such scams, problems are being created for those who run legal water purifying business which may create huge losses to them and may also tarnish the image of certain prominent water brands. The health department, district administration and concerned officials should act against such companies for the welfare of the people.

Guys I heard that we have got Labour Department, Health Department and they are drawing salaries on monthly basis and the cost charged to TAX PAYERS fund!

The question here how these departments are operating and what is their role here ! where are they sitting ! what is their responsibilities towards their bosses common man ! last time one famous bakery production area exposed by one good Samaritan which is right under the nose of so called health department !

Most of the officers are very old with old age ailments who cant perform efficiently otherwise 70 percent of the restaurant and eateries will close down for hygienic reasons ! Posh Restaurants with lavish entrance and indoor decorations with uniformed staff colorful menus but if you go backyard to the kitchen you can find the reality even the toilets smell stinking ! people with very dirty clothes , preparation areas is very dirty someone cant stay more than one minute

Corruption is at galore when it coming to the inspection of eateries and grocery. We Indians are adjustable for any situation that exactly those politician cashing it !

GREAT JOB BY DAIJIWORLD TEAM. THERE SHOULD BE MORE SUCH STING OPERATIONS IN EVERY FIELD THAT CONCERNS OUR PEOPLE. BE IT HOTELS, CATERING, FOOD PACKAGING, SCHOOLS, TRANSPORT, HOSPITALS, ETC. ETC. SHOULD BE GIVEN A THREAT BY SUCH EXPOSURE. THEN ONLY MANGALORE WILL BECOME A 'SMART CITY'. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD HONOUR SUCH MEDIA AGENCIES WHO COME UP WITH SUCH KIND OF OPERATIONS TO EXPOSE THE CULPRITS IN OUR COUNTRY. SUCH STING OPERATIONS CAN BENEFIT THE COMMONER AND SEND THE ROGUE OPERATORS INTO HIDING. EVERY NEWSPAPER AND MEDIA HOUSES SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST ONE EXPOSURE PLANNED IN THEIR MONTHLY REPORTS. CONGRATS TO DAIJIWORLD. DENZIL FERNANDES, MANGALORE.

A bold initiative by Daijiworld team. Public has to appreciate the courage. But this will not help public until our government and beuracracy is wiped out. If a media group was so concerned and took this bold step, what was our government doing for years together? Let us simply accept that these guys have earned illegal money they will bribe health authorities and police and also lawyers and judges to get away with minimum fines and our so called civil servaants with take the share of loot and dismiss the case. This is exactly what is happening all over India. Politicians, investigating agencies, judiciary , police departments are in public service only for money. It is sad but true.

Salute to those, who boldly carried out the much required sting operation. Such sting operation are need of the hour in current society, where authorities only wake up after news flashes in media. Subsequently the PRAJA are inebriated state due to politics of caste/creed/religion, and no time to watch around.

Much needs to be unearthed for at least better future of our coming generations.

Consumer should rely only on Renowned Brand Companies like Bisleri, Aquafina & Kinley and purchase it from their authorised distributors. Consumer should demand these distributors for their letter of appointment. These unlicensed operators operate due to utter failure of BIS, FSSAI and civil authorities.

A good expose on the state of affairs! As usual, the health authorities in the district are all sleeping. No one is pro-active and doing their job of safeguarding citizens health, Now, probably as a knee-jerk reaction to the sting operation, you will see some raids at select locations, there will be a big show of action being taken and then the health authorities will go back to sleep till something new is exposed. This type of illegal and unsafe practices happen all over our country, not only in our district. Safeguarding citizens health by stringent regulations, continous checks, monitoring and penalties is required but sadly in India, it never happens. In other countries, the entire industry or company would be shut down, blacklisted and strong punitive measures taken. Here, they will be back in business after a few weeks or months making a mockery of our weak laws. In our country, good health of citizens does not bring any benefits nor does it matter to the powers that be but the financial health of business houses and corporates should be always be good and bring in profits. That is a fact!
