Govt working on state teachers' demands: Vinod Tawde

Mumbai, Sep 26 (TOI): Education minister Vinod Tawde on Tuesday assured a delegation of teachers from aided colleges, who started an indefinite strike on Tuesday, that the government was working towards fulfilling their demands. The teachers will decide their further action on Wednesday after receiving a copy of minutes of the meeting with the minister.

Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers' Organization has been demanding filling of vacant teaching posts across universities and colleges in the state and implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission, among other issues. The teachers have been agitating for over two months.

Even as teachers participated in the strike in large numbers, lectures at colleges were not affected to a large extent, as other teachers were present.
