Kundapur, Sep 26: "Corruption has grown into a menace now. We can drive away corruption if people boldly and fearlessly come forward to complain about this problem," felt Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Udupi district deputy superintendent of police (DySP), Dinakar Shetty.

He was speaking at a programme meant to create awareness about the need for eradication of corruption, organized at Herald Rebello auditorium, Hemmady here on Monday September 24 under the combined aegis of ACB Udupi, Hemmady gram panchayat, Jaycee India Hemmady unit and Dharmasthala Rural Development Project.

"Corruption can create havoc with the economic system of the entire country. As a result, the taxes we pay go waste, and it becomes difficult to provide infrastructure and other facilities. Therefore, everyone should join hands to eradicate corruption. No one need to pay any bribe to any of the government officials for any work. As per laws recently passed, even those who pay bribes would be treated as guilty," he explained.

He said that out of 180 countries, India has been placed at No. 81 as far as corruption level is concerned, meaning that 100 countries have less corruption than India. He said that out of every four persons, one suffers from corruption-related issues.

ACB police inspector, Jayaram Gowda, said that people who come to know about any corruption cases can directly inform the ACB either directly, through letters, phone etc. He said that names of complainants would be kept a secret. He advised people to take a firm decision against paying bribe.

The programme was presided over by Jaycee India Hemmady unit president Raghavendra Kulal.  Hemmady gram panchayat president, Jyoti Harish Bhandary, head teacher of Janata High Scool, P Mohan Shetty, and others were present. Teacher, Jagadish Shetty, welcomed and presented the programme.
