France fears Hollande's claims on Rafale deal can damage ties with India

Mumbai, Sep 24 (DC): The ongoing Rafale fighter jet deal controversy that has sparked a row among political parties in India has created new ripples internationally as well.

The French government reportedly said on Sunday that it feared damage to its relations with India after former French President Francois Hollande stirred controversy about a Rafale fighter jet deal, news agency AFP reported.

Hollande, who left office in May 2017, had on Friday said that the French government's 2016 deal with India had no say in choosing the Anil Amabani-led Reliance Defence as the offset partner of Dassault Aviation for the manufacture of the Rafale jets.

The Narendra Modi government signed an agreement to buy 36 Rafale jets from Dassault, which later announced that it had decided to partner with Reliance Defence rather than the public defence conglomerate Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (HAL).

The statement by the former French president Francois Hollande that Dassault "did not have a say in it" triggered massive slugfest in India, as it strengthened the opposition claims that the Modi government had intervened to favour Anil Ambani at the cost of HAL.

"I find these remarks made overseas, which concern important international relations between France and India, do not help anyone and above all do not help France," junior foreign minister Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne said in a interview on Radio J on Sunday about Hollande.

"Because one is no longer in office, causing damage to a strategic partnership between India and France by making remarks that clearly cause controversy in India is really not appropriate," Lemoyne said.

Notably, Hollande made the comments to defend himself from accusations of a conflict of interest in the Rafale deal as the Reliance conglomerate had partially financed a film that had been produced by his girlfriend Julie Gayet, in 2016.

The choice of Reliance for a highly strategic contract to upgrade India's ageing fleet of fighter jets had surprised all as the group had no previous experience in the aeronautics industry.

At a press conference, Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked the government over the revelation. "An ex-president of France is calling him (the prime minister of India) a thief. It's a question of the dignity of the office of the prime minister."

As the controversy grew bigger, Dassault Aviation released a statement saying that the company had chosen to partner with Reliance Defence instead of HAL.

On Sunday, Finance Minister Arun Jailtley said that the deal would not be scrapped due to the allegations and said that the statements by Opposition leaders in France and India could perhaps be “orchestrated.”

France's biggest exports is arms, armaments, fighter jets, submarines and military hardware. It is more than the total no. of perfumes, cheese, haute couture fashion and inbound tourism put together. So,

All defaulters, except Mallya, are from Gujarat. Modi ruled Gujarat as CM for twelve and half years. How come the central government became responsible for loans availed by Gujaratis during this period ?

Even Mallya isn't a Gujarati, he was BJP RS member when he left the country. All his liabilities were on record. How come his search warrant was issued on the next day of his fleeing the nation ?

As such, where is congress appearing in the gol-maal ?

Pappu should knock the door of SC with substantial proofs,if he has any. Similar to what was done in the bofors case to his father. Daily tweeting and lashing out will not help, RaGa should have learnt this ploy of 'lashing out to Modi' is not goin to work, esp after 33 defeats. Actually,Congress wants to drag this issue till 2019 so that they can reap the benefits of this fake propoganda. Congress does not want Rafale issue to die soon.If the case goes to SC they know that the verdict will be in favor or Modi and Cong know it very well..Hence to prolong this propaganda it wants JPC to probe this matter which will take more time before coming to any conclusion before 2019 election ,

Even after winning the elections in 2014, the Gujju-bhai and his mates are still blaming the UPA almost every single day.

I think there is more than what we can see now.
There are forces in the world with vested interests which wants to topple Modi government or at least want to make sure that Modi is not reelected in 2019. Modi has made it difficult for certain entities to carry out their job in India by putting strict rules on foreign funding.
The orchestrated drama by the Congress in India, and the chorus from the former President of France substantiate my fear. Moreover, we have a history of current opposition party, compromising national interests for the benefits of the royal family and their sect.

This time for RaGa to file counter defamation case against Ambani's defamation case.

How could Ambani file a case if it isn't because of the assurance form the PM himself ? All thought that France will not give out the secret. They forgot that there is an ex-government, that signed the deal and the one that is executing the deal. The earlier may not have benefited much, all the 'Moolaa' by Ambanis must be enjoyed by the present.

Chowkidaar is the title accepted by Modi himself - he said : 'Main desh ka chowkidaar hoon. Naa Khaaoonaa, naa khaane doonga'

There is nothing wrong in RaGa calling 'Desh ka chowkidaar chor hai'

Will somebody file a defamation case against RaGa now ?? Hai koi maai ka laal ??

What a shame - Modi went ga.. ga... worldwide, fooled NRIs and enjoyed their full attendances in A/C auditoriums with his fake 'Make in India' He promised them that he is creating an India to welcome them with several newly established industries when they lose their jobs. Now what happens ? Without utilizing skills within India, the business is given to his friend-enterpruner to get the project done with foreign collaboration.

What happened to Ambani's defamation case against RaGa ? Why France is worried ? That the deal will be cancelled ?

The man came to power blaming Congress to have looted India, has looted within his terms ends. How did majority of Indians trusted and voted for him ??

No foreign companies will collaborate with Indian public sector companies for business venture. That is the fate which the long ruling Congress has brought India to. Suzuki's association with Maruthi Udyog made it stagnant in India for long years. As soon as it became independent, see the number of models they have introduced on Indian roads.
Modi is trying revive everything by his 'make in India' initiative.
Are you aware of Marco polo buses are being manufactured in haryana now? Audi in Tamilnadu? Indian mobile manufacturing companies have seen business boom in last two years. What more you need?

Oh ! You mean, Indian Govt took technological help from France to manufacture Rafale ? Or, is the Contract given to French company to manufacture the unit ? As per you, very soon India will independently build Rafael units in India ? Please tell me, why didn't the government use HAL ?

Foremost, HAL wasn't consulted at all, and the Defense Minister said that HAL has no capacity to build the units hence HAL was rejected by UPA. How correct is this, when the HAL head made it clear that it was not approached by the government at all ? Is the Minister saying that HAL was rejected by UPA and Reliance was the choice of UPA too ?

How come the Ex-minister of France said that HAL wasn't in reference at all ? That France had no choice of deciding who their Indian counterpart will be but Reliance was the lone (suggested) party to carry out the works ?

Do you guys think rest of India has no intellect at all ?
