Kerala nun rape case: Bishop Franco Mulakkal discharged from Kottayam hospital

Kottayam, Sep 22(PTI): Bishop Franco Mulakkal, arrested by the police over allegations of repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting a nun, was Saturday discharged from the government hospital in the city where he was admitted following complaints of chest pain, official sources said.

The 54-year-old clergyman would be produced in a magistrate court in Pala later in the day. He had complained of pain in his chest while being taken to Kottayam Police club from the Crime Branch office in Thrippunithura in Ernakulam district Friday night, they said.

He was under observation in the cardiology section of the Medical College Hospital for over 6 hours after his blood pressure shot up, they said.

Sources said ECG and other cardiac related tests were performed. His health condition is said to be normal.

In her complaint to the Kottayam Police in June, the nun had alleged that Bishop Mulakkal raped her at a guest house in Kuravilangad in May 2014 and later sexually exploited her on several occasions.

She said she had to approach the police as the church authorities did not act on her repeated complaints against the clergyman. However, the bishop has denied the charges.

Faking Chest Pain & having Consensual Sex with a Nun is disgusting & doesn’t match the caliber of a Bishop. The Nun allowed Consensual Sex with the Bishop 12 times in 4 years but on the 13th time when the Bishop told her that she has to accept her transfer orders then only the Nun realized she was Raped. The Nun is also an equal accomplice to this crime & both ( Bishop & Nun) should be Punished …

The inability of the nun to reveal or complain of rape because of her circumstances does not turn the rape into consensual sex. The Bishop was in such a position where he could coerce the nun to quench his lust.
Some times when you hear abuses from a person for the first time you dont react. second time too you don't react and you feel this will be over. but when it repeats you go and slap on his face right? Does it mean the earlier abuses were not abuses?
Let the guilty be punished and the victim be rewarded by the Christians for bringing out the truth.
