Kundapur, Sep 20: Opposition leader Kota Shrinivas Poojary on Thursday, September 20 said that he was ready to go to jail over irregular toll collection at Sasthan toll gate.

Addressing the protesters, Poojary said, "Though 70 per cent of the works are pending and service road is yet to be constructed, the highway officials are collecting toll from the public. They have defied the rules and despite repeated protests by the public, no action has been taken. Navayuga Company, for the last two years, has undertaken unscientific works on NH 66. The works undertaken at Kaup, Udupi and Kundapur are incomplete. Despite pending works, the company is collecting toll from the public which is condemnable.”

Poojary on behalf of the protesters also demanded a meeting by the deputy commissioner within September 30 to stop collecting toll.

Several associations and people's representatives joined the public in protest against toll collection by Navayuga Company.

Rajesh Kaveri, Raghavendra Kanchan Barikeri, zilla panchayat member, Govinda Poojary, president of Pandeshwar gram panchayat, Sathish Poojary, taluk panchayat member and others were present.

The protesters also submitted a memorandum to Brahmavar tahshildar.
