Kasargod, Sep 20: Out of 14 persons who had gone missing from the state last year without a trace and who were believed to have joined ISIS in its ethnic cleaning activity, one stands deported to India. The man, Nashidul Ham Zafar, was deported by Afghanistan government on the charge of illegally entering that country with the tacit purpose of joining hands with terrorist organization, ISIS.

This is for the first time that Afghanistan has identified and deported a person for ISIS terrorist connections. As soon as Zafar landed at New Delhi airport from Kabul, he was taken into custody by National Investigation Agency.

Zafar had left from here along with 13 others on October 3, 2017. The group had visited Muscat, Oman, and then Iran. From there they went to Kabul where they were arrested.

Reportedly Nashidul had built terrorist network through social media with the help of several accomplices, National Investigation Agency said. He will soon be brought to Kochi for further interrogation, it is learnt.

Reports had put the figure of Kerala citizens who had joined ISIS at 90 as at March this year. Out of them, 16 have so far died due to firing by American and other allied forces. Out of these 90, 21 are from this district and 38 are from Kannur.
