Beltangady: Tahsildar, police, raid illegal black stone quarry - seize vehicles, assets

Beletangady, Sep 19: A team of the police from the local station along with the tahsildar raided a spot where illegal quarrying was going on, on Tuesday September 18. The team took into possession five vehicles and other items used for quarrying activity.

The said quarry was operational at Perendile within Laila gram panchayat. Tahsildar, Madan Mohan, other officials of his department, and police personnel raided the spot. During the raid, persons accused of indulging in this illegal activity took to their heels. Two trucks, two backhoes, a tractor, and large quantities of other items were taken into possession. The assets so seized are currently in the custody of the police here. The tahsildar would be taking up the matter with the departments of mines and geology for further action.

The tahsildar has information that during the raids, the police accessed explosives used to set off blasts. If this is proved, the case will be a serious one, and steps would be initiated against the owner of the land in question, the tahsildar stated.

Revenue inspector, Ravikumar, Laila village accountant, Meghana, Nada village accountant, Ankit, village assistant, Satish, assistant sub-inspector, Ashok and others were present during the raid.
