Mangaluru, Sep 18: "The concept of plastic surgery was thought and performed for the first time ever in this world by Lord Shiva," opined Nalin Kumar Kateel, member of parliament, at the Vishwakarma Jayanti programme on Monday, September 17.
The MP, who narrated the story of Parvati asking her son Ganapati to man the door while she went to have bath, said that after beheading the son of Parvati, Lord Shiva cut the head of an elephant and joined it on the torso of the boy and created Ganapati by plastic surgery.
Mohammed Monu, president of Mangaluru taluk panchayat presided over the function. Baikady Janardhan Achar, administrative officer of Shakti Residential School, Dr Y Bharath Shetty, MLA, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, district president of Karnataka Sahitya Parishad and K Keshava Acharya, administrative mentor of Kalikamba Vinayaka temple were present.
