Udupi, Sep 17: Reprimanded and slapped by his girlfriend's father and smarting under the insult, a 22-year-old youth, who allegedly committed suicide near Vishnumoorthi temple, Kemthooru two days ago, died at KMC hospital, Manipal, on Monday, September 17.

Sooraj Suvarna (22) resident of Puttur was in love with the daughter of Viroopaksha for the last one year. Viroopaksha, who opposed the love affair of his daughter, had come to Curtain Paradise shop, Lions Circle here on August 15 last month where Sooraj was employed. Viroopaksha had hurled expletives at Sooraj and even slapped him with his footwear.

Sooraj, who was dejected due to the insult, consumed rat poison near Vishnumoorthi temple, Kemthooru on September 15. Manoj Suvarna, Sooraj’s elder brother in a complaint to Udupi town police station stated that Sooraj died at 5.45 am on September 17 at Manipal KMC hospital without responding to treatment.

Poor young man. If only he hadn't taken his life and sought assistance instead. Perhaps, he could have been talked out of it. Or at the very least, a counsellor could have attempted to do so. Now we will never know what factor deep down in his psyche prompted him to take a completely irreversible step. May his soul Rest in Peace and, as many have said, may his family be granted the grace to come to terms with their loss.

First of all RIP and may almighty give patience to his family to bear this huge loss. I would say he has taken a very wrong step. He should have fight back with the girl father. Literally most of the girl's parents become villain in love matters so the guy become victim and take such steps with his precious life.

JNB Mangalore ,as you say before before venturing in love one has to learn basic technic .One doesnt venture in love but you fall simply fall in love without much efforts .No big technics are needed. Not when it is a real one. Here for girls father,he was not a prestigious enough or a rich one?Anyway he shouldnt have indulged in such a act with a adult, and would be son in law.some simply raise their hands before utter a word.respecting others is a quite unknown word to some indians.Even politicians.Boy too shouldnt have taken it as scandal but fight for his lover and show him he can also a normal respectful person who earns his own money. But some take it so as disgrace.sad may his soul rest in peace.

When you are in love with girl or boy, then you have to "Expect & Accept" all these things like slapping, beating, insult from opposite party members..Otherwise, you have to keep yourself away from Love business..Here, boy did mistake..He is young, He should have proved girl's father wrong by achieving his goal or reaching big milestone in his life.. but he opted for suicide..Very bad..RIP..

Regarding girl's father, it's nothing wrong to avoid his daughter from love? Infatuation with her boyfriend. As a good father he could have taken that step. ...!
Whatever it may be , boy couldn't committed suicide, didn't thought of his parents and siblings.
He could be ready for any consequences to prove his love with his girlfriend.
He forgot EVERYTHING IS FAIR IN LOVE AND WAR...!

What the girl's father did was absolutely wrong. He should first correct his own daughter. The concerned girl and boy are not minors, they can decide for themselves. It is not a crime to fall in love. The girl's father has no right to go and slap the boy with his slipper. If the same was done to his son would he have accepted it. No. He would have felt insulted. The same with Sooraj, he also had self respect. I feel the girl's father should be severely punished.

I was beaten up black and blue by hired goons and the cops as well. Of course police hit me because her parents gave a false complaint.

But now we are happily married for 20 years and yes we are still very much madly in love.

Coward boy, ran away from reality.

Hegde bro and Cynthia, thanks for your reply. I was just trying to imply that he shouldn't have just done what he did. If he really loved the girl then he should have faced the consequences proved it to the father that he is capable to take care of the girl. We don't know if he discussed the incident with the girl or his own family.

God knows the kind of difficulties his parents went through to raise him and educate him. Like you said Cynthia, he just could have spoken to his parents. But he just went away. That's not love.

This is because of neglect, ignorance and over pride of girls parents. In present generation girls parents let their girl child go free on the soceity, they can do anything they want, can go anywhere they want, can go out anytime they want.. no culture, no norms, no repect, nothing... Girls minds filled with WE ARE FROM HIGHER OR MIDDLE CLASS WITH MODERN APPROACH TO LIFE. if some mistakes happend every one will defend girl. But everyone forget the truth that "IMPOSSIBLE CLAP WITH ONE HAND
