Hike in fuel prices continue, petrol nears Rs 90 mark in Mumbai

New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS): The prices of domestic fuels continued to rise on Saturday with petrol being sold at Rs 81.63 per litre and diesel at Rs 73.54 per litre in the national capital. The increase in the petrol price is by Rs 0.35/ per litre while diesel rose by Rs 0.24 per litre, data from the Indian Oil Corp's website showed.

In Mumbai, the petrol price is at Rs 89.01 per litre after it increased by Rs 0.34 per litre while the diesel price is at Rs 78.07 per litre which again increased by Rs 0.25 per litre.

The fuel prices, which made an upward movement on Friday, had touched fresh record levels in three of the four metro cities.

Transportation fuel prices have been on the rise for over a month now on the back of high crude oil prices and a weak rupee. Depreciation in the rupee against the US dollar makes the import of crude oil dearer as the transaction takes place with dollars.

The Brent crude oil is currently priced over $78 per barrel.

In tandem with petrol prices, cost of diesel also scaled new highs. In Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, the price of the fuel rose to Rs 73.30, Rs 77.82 and Rs 77.49 per litre on Friday, from the Thursday's levels of Rs 73.08, Rs 77.58 and Rs 77.25 per litre.

Diesel price in Kolkata rose to Rs 75.15, from the previous Rs 74.93 per litre on the same day. The all-time high price of diesel in the city was Rs 75.82 per litre which was recorded on Tuesday.

The sales boys at supermarkets used to draw a salary of 2000 to 2500 five years ago and now even a helper draws more than 10000. Medical representatives draw upto a lakh, whereas five years ago it was 20000. Consultation fees of doctors have increased to 750- 1000 rupees. Hotel servers too get more than 15000 rupees a month.
forget about others. Honestly compare your present income to that of five years ago. You will understand the petrol prices has not inflated proportionately. Then why do you complain?

Stop propaganda.. you guys could afford to pay 70 rupees per litre when your income was less than half, now what you get today? I have been asking all those who criticize the govt to provide proof if they think the revenue generated is being pocketed? No one has come out with any proof. Yes, I am a bhakht as you brand me, no shame, I can not stand those who misguide the people through false propaganda. Thank you.

Very easy to sing praises to Modi from Dubai when getting pay hike in terms of rupee every day. Proof of pocketing? Well, pocketing is not done keeping a witness for heaven's sake! Only when the ruling party loses power, all shady deals see the daylight. Now for the time being, do you have any answer to your own lawmaker Dr Subramanian Swamy's question as to who in New Delhi diluted the lookout notice on Vijay Mallya in October 2015? Whoever it is, it proves one thing, some top honcho in the party that you adore is corrupt to the core, whether you accept or not.

Yesterday I saw a Stock market analyst saying the similar thing on National TV. He says that even if a guy use's thirty litres of fuel then his monthly fuel bill will increase by a paltry Rs.300. But our real experience is differen. If Diesel price is hiked by 2 rupees then all local bus and public transport rates will be hiked by more than 2 rupees a ride. Vegetable prices will shoot up blaming higher fuel prices. And salaries do not double so fast.

    1. The inflation rate during UPA was average 10% pa, now for past three years it is 4%. 3. What percentage of population is affected by fuel prices? Not even 25%. Despite hike in fuel prices, there is no significant escalation of daily eatables, transportation costs have been offset through various measures like no octroi, faster delivery, e bidding, reduction of middle men, bribes etc. 4. What is your pay now and what it was in 2013? Has it not increased by 70 to 80% if not doubled? 5. The percentage of tax slabs not increased, does it not add on to your affordability? 6. Poor people are being helped and you are contributing, does it not make you happy. 7. Is any individual pocketing revenue collections? If so let us prove and take action. 8. Do you think govt is not subsidizing fuel prices jan bhuj kar. Are they crazy? Elections are only eight months away. Just think, can any govt afford to annoy people intentionally?. Expect your considered response for fruitful discussion on this subject.

I will answer your first two point in terms of question only!
    1. If inflation was 10% during UPA and 4% now, Why the general prices of almost all commodities less during UPA but very high now!?.
    2. If as per you, not even 25% of the population is affected by fuel price rise, does the rest 75 % live in jungles!?. I don't need a vehicle to feel the price of petrol! All things I get are transported on vehicles powered by fuel and not on nuclear reactors!
