Udupi, Sep 10: Section 144 has been imposed in Udupi city limits.

A fierce fight ensued between the activists of BJP and Congress on the occasion of Bharath Bandh in the city. Prabhakar Poojary, Udupi city president of BJP has been seriously injured and is admitted to a hospital.

It is said that activists of the Congress party have assaulted Prabhakar and in the melee, he has received grave injuries. There was a tense situation in the locality where this incident happened. Immediately SP of Udupi Laxman Nimbargi and personnel of the police department resorted to lathi charge in order to disperse the groups of activists.

The Congress party people have alleged that SP Nimbargi and the personnel of police have hit Ramesh Kanchan, member of CMC Udupi with lathis. Congress leader Vinay Kumar Sorake met Ramesh Kanchan, who is admitted to a hospital in Udupi, and sought information on the issue from him.

As a tense situation is prevailing on the spot, police have taken strict bandobast to prevent any further incidents of violence. In order to bring the situation under control Udupi tahasildar, Pradeep Kurdekar has order imposition of section 144 in Udupi city limits.

Udupi report

In Udupi, most of the shops are closed. But some shopkeepers tried to keep the shops open. At Thenkupete , a vegetable shop belonging to Sridhar Bhat was damaged by some people and a worker there was beaten up. Police have arrived at the place.

At Car Street a shop was damaged and the items from the shop were thrown out.

In Manipal, some auto drivers had clash with the workers of political parties, who wanted the drivers not to run their autos and to observe bandh. Drivers said it is their choice and they have to work in order to live and look after their families. Some heated arguments took place between the two groups. But the police, who arrived at the scene, pacified them and asked them to refrain from indulging in arguments.

DK DC warns

In connection with the bandh call given to protest against increase in petrol and diesel prices, the deputy commissioner of DK  district, Sasikanth Senthil, has warned against forcing people to support or take part in the bandh call.

He has, through a press release dated September 9, referred to excerpts from a Supreme Court verdict as per which those who call for hartals or strikes should make it clear in their call that no one would be compelled to participate in these forms of agitation, traffic will not be obstructed and those who are willing can go for work should be allowed to do so and fundamental rights of people to move about would not be affected.

He has accordingly warned that if any political parties, ortgnizations etc try to force others to fall in line with the bandh call, they will be legally proceeded against.

The deputy commissioner said that the city police have already pressed into service a deputy commissioner of police, four assistant commissioners of police, 25 police inspectors, 30 police sub-inspectors, civil staff, home guards, four contingents of Karnataka State Reserve Police, ten city armed reserve contingents etc have been posted for looking after law and order, and the movement of anti social elements are being closely monitored.

Likewise, two deputy superintendents of police, seven inspectors, 20 sub-inspectors, 40 assistant sub-inspectors, head constables, home guards, Karnataka State Reerve Police contingents, three district armed reserve police etc have been given the responsibility of monitoring law and order situation elsewhere in the district.

He said that as a precautionary measure, and to help maintain law and order and peace in the district, holiday has been declared for all schools and colleges in the district.

Common people had a bad Monday in some places because of bandh. Did it make a difference? Fuel prices increased again. It may go up further. Who can do anything. Not now and not in 2019. Mark my words. See what happened in Karnataka and every other state.

All parties should have voluntarily joined the Bandh to bring down the prices. Why there are some people reluctant, as if they enjoy high prices? It is the common people are suffering, not the rich.

Giving Modi a chance people thought, he will root out corruption and speed up development. They were hopeful, despite his pathetic policy changes they hoped with time things will change. They could not say it openly till now, as it was their own decision to vote for him.

They realized now, it was all a show and Modi led BJP fooled them. It is disaster not only for them, but even to the entire country.

Corrupt and Criminals are walking free in one side and on the other their life is getting miserable with pathetic failure in policy making and implementation.

The party and people who called for the bandh should be asked to pay for the economic loss to the poor and middle class. They use high-end petrol guzzling cars , most of them purchased with bank loans and money is laundered by paying back the loans with black money. Protesting is one thing but destroying public property should be condemned by one and all.

Pity that people expected heaven and now they are forced to undergo hell. We need professional people at top level to solve uncontrollable situation like now.

Politicians are busy in making India hell by colorful speeches and promises and diverting the attention of present India's grave situation by inciting people on religious lines. Shame on those politicians who are responsible for price hike and still going on making speeches and dividing communities for vote purpose and stay in power.

Calling for "Bundh" is fine but people should have a choice to participate coz we live in a Democracy.
Damaging Public Property is not acceptable. The infrastructure has been built with our TAX paid to the government. When we damage/destroy public property, we indirectly destroy our own property.

The government will utilize our TAX money to repair or replace this damage or there may be no repairs done. Whatever the situation - it is OUR LOSS.

Please refrain from damaging public property.

I support the right to call for Bandh... Political parties can protest peacefully...but a Bandh should be voluntary, it should not be imposed on the people. There is no justification for mob violence and vandalism in response to people not supporting the Bandh.

It is the very same people who once voted for Congress that voted for BJP at the centre in 2014 and in a few months they could very well change change their mind. So people will support Bandh if they want to and not if they don't want to.

A Bandh forced by violence and vandalism is a failure, not a successful one.

Though I don't support any kind of Bandh's. I have a moral support for today Bandh, because this is the first Bandh called by Opposition parties in last four years. When BJP was in opposition, we use to see at least 4 to 5 bandh's every year.

The Bundh called as a protest against the sky rocketing prices, low quality lifestyle and no achche din for any. We Indians must understand that bundh is not to increase the burden on people it is to decrease the burden. Then why burning tyres and destroying properties in the name of bundh! Instead of bundh, 1.25 crore people must question the government and get results, as true Indian democratic citizens.

If law enforcing authorities are keen to maintain same in mangalore, they need to get cctv footage of this area and find out the culprit who burnt tyres and stoned at bus.
Put him inside bar with appropriate treatment, hence next time he and his team will think 100 time before indulging these kind of meaningless work.
