Bengaluru, Aug 21: Expressing grave concern about the flood situation in Kerala and Kodagu, the state high court (HC) expressed the opinion that human errors are indirectly responsible for the nature's fury being witnessed now.

The division bench headed by Chief Justice, Dinesh Maheshwari, which was conducting hearing of an application filed oby Shreesha Nayak from Karkala taluk on Monday August 20 expressed this opinion. Nayak has drawn the attention of the high court to the fact that the water from a nearby stream is being contaminated due to a stone quarry that is functioning near the stream at Kanajaru village, Karkala taluk, Udupi district. He has sought directions to the state government against allowing the water to get contaminated.

During the hearing, Justice Maheshwari mentioned about the grave flood situation in Kerala and Kodagu, and noted that hills and hillocks have been caving in from all sides and because of floods arising from different sources, a natural calamity has arisen, and indirectly mistakes on the part of humans are responsible for this situation. He expressed the feeling that everyone has to wake up to the grim situation and do whatever is possible to avert further disasters.
