Gulf firm sacks Kerala man for insensitive comments on plight of flood-hit victims

Daijiworld Media Network

Kochi, Aug 20: A Gulf firm has fired a man from Kerala after he made insensitive comments on a social media post on the plight of the flood-hit victims in the state.

According to reports, Rahul Cheru Palayattu, who worked as a cashier at Lulu Group International's branch in Oman was fired after he mocked the sanitation requirements of the flood victims in Kerala on Facebook.

"This is to inform that we have terminated your service with immediate effect because of your highly insensitive and derogatory comments on social media with regard to current flood situation in Kerala, India. You are hereby instructed to handover all your official responsibilities to your reporting Manager immediately and to contact the Accounts Department for your final settlement,” read the termination letter by the firm’s Human Resource Manager, Nasr Mubarak Salem Al Maawali.

Meanwhile, Rahul apologized by posting a video on Facebook on Sunday. He said, "I am really sorry for what I did. I was in an inebriated state when I posted that message. At that time, I did not know what I did was a grave mistake."

Chief Communications Officer (CCO) of Lulu group V Nandakumar too released a statement in this regard. "We took immediate steps to terminate his services and send out a very loud and clear message to the society about our stance in such issues. We as an organization have always stood for humanitarian values and highest ethical practices," he said.

What does Lulu give to its employees all day standing in the outles he was really frank and open in is post. He is not hiding like the leaders in India saying something and doing something else. Just like the Indian run business's in the middle East and it's agents in India. I appreciate the post nothing wrong, looks like Lulu is cost cutting.

To err is human. If this man has truly repented - it is expedient that his apologies are accepted and that he is reinstated.

Rahul Cheru Palayattu made a comment and when realized he was wrong, he apologised. Isn't there something called forgiveness. The company Rahul was working for should certainly reinstate him.

Rahul Cheru Palayattu made a comment and when realized he was wrong, he apologised. Isn't there something called forgiveness and moving on with out lives, it was unfortunate that his comments caused him to loose his job.

I am also deeply disturbed when people are commenting adversely and negatively in this forum. As the holy Bible says, those who have not made unwanted comments, cast the first stone.

    Rita, Germany.

Humans err they make mistakes and they apologise, and when they are truly sorry they MUST be forgiven and reinstated.

Do you know of any one who has misspoken knowingly or unknowingly? Should all those who misspeak or criticize be terminated from their jobs. He only commented and that was his trend of thought, doesn't each and every one has that God given right of free speech.

Punishing him by taking over his livelihood is punishing the entire family and the many people he may have been supporting. This is typical gulf dictatorial mentality and attitude, if someone does not agree with you, just get rid of him. I don't agree with this arbitrary termination and if I had the power I would reinstate him right away along with an apology.

Even in inebriated state a man speaks what is there in his mind. Such idiots are to be treated like this only. Another idiot Suresh has recorded a voice message, speaking richness of Keralites. In such situations like flood money will never come to help. You can not float with a pile of money. One needs external help very badly.

some people are commenting on RSS. but regret to say that these people could not understand the ground reality. The RSS people are busy with serving flood affected people. please also note that while helping the flood affected people they are not asking their religion or caste. but unfortunately we are busy with writing comments based on religion/caste etc. I request the reader, please come out of caste/religion fabrics. ofcourse there may be difference in ideology but don't blame anyone without knowing their service to this society. if we change ourselves then this society will change.
