UAE businessman KP Hussain donates 2.6 million dirhams for Kerala flood relief

Abu Dhabi, Aug 19 (IANS): A United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based businessman has announced a 2.6 million dirhams ($707,837) donation towards relief operations in the flood-hit Indian state of Kerala.

According to K.P. Hussain, chairman of Fathima Healthcare Group, about half of the amount will directly go to the Kerala Chief Minister's Relief Fund, while the rest will be allocated for medical relief aid, reports Khaleej Times.

Hussain said that the group has coordinated with the state's health secretary to send volunteers from its medical faculty, which includes doctors and paramedics, to relief camps.

Other UAE businessmen had also earlier pledged donation to help in flood relief operations.

As of Sunday, the toll from the torrential rains and the subsequent floods that has ravaged Kerala since August 9 stood at 370.

Kerala’s natural disaster has affected the collective conscience of a large group of people across the world with foreign countries such as Qatar and UAE coming forward to help the flood victims.

More than 300 people have died and the death toll could shoot up further. Hundreds of thousands of people have been rendered homeless even as the government grapple to accurately judge the extent of the loss. Bollywood actors, certain politicians such as BJP MP Varun Gandhi, Congress party and Aam Aadmi Party have risen to the occasion to do their bit to help their fellow Indians in Kerala.

Last year, the state government had sought around Rs 7,000 crore from the Centre for relief work after cyclone Ockhi hit the Kerala coast. The Centre agreed to allocate only Rs 820 crore. And now, when the state is facing its worst-ever crisis, the Centre is overlooking the scale of the disaster.

Narendra Modi government priorities are clear
    Advertisement 4,300 Crores.
    Kumbh Mela 4,200 Crores.
    Shivaji Statue 3,600 Crores.
    Patel Statue 2,989 Crores.
    PM travel 1,484 Crores.
    Kerala Flood Relief 100 Crores.
According to the Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s initial assessment, the state has suffered a loss of Rs 19,512 crore. More than three lakh people have already been displaced. Hundreds of villages and towns have entirely submerged under water, and all 14 districts are on red alert.

The BJP which offered Rs100 crores to buy each MLA in Karnataka to form government and spend $5 Billion in 2014 election campaign is so far able to deliver only RS 80 crores.

Remember that a flood does not discriminate. It does not see religion, caste, gender.

We mangaloreans , have a lot to learn from Kerala. They are united at all times. Selfless when it comes to helping other members from their state. Religion has always taken the last priority there. Whereas in mangalore , Gossip mongers & religious haters spread false news and create a atmosphere of hatred towards anybody who follows a religion other than their own. But just wait and see and we will see that Kerala will be up and about in no time at all. Donations will come pouring in from all quarters regardless of religion & they will help each other . God keep everybody safe in kerala.

Whole world is sympathizing with Kerala and opening thier wallets wide and deep except BJP party who is just giving lip service and emotional rhetorics. As usual they are talkers not doers. If they could they would even stop whoever wants to contribute. Blind and duffer Bhakths claim army, navy and NDRF are serving the people as if these institutions are owned by BJP. Theses institutions are paid by tax payers money and just doing thier duty. What is BJP party contributing from its pocket?????....Not even calf is saved by sons of cows.

    Mr.Maniar, Suratkal
Sir,The campaign has showed that while none of the BJP-ruled states has come forward to extend any help to Kerala, the non-BJP states have together donated Rs 71 crore to Kerala CM’s disaster relief fund. The states that have announced the donations include Andhra Pradesh (Rs five crore), Delhi (Rs 10 crore), Karnataka (Rs 10 crore), Odisha (Rs 5 crore), Punjab (Rs 10 crore), Tamil Nadu (Rs five crore), Telangana (Rs 25 crore), Puducherry (Rs one crore).
I hate to make this comparison but it is very unfortunate and real. Look at the Donations from different states for Kerala Floods.
Do the CM's of these BJP states have any empathy? Can they not act on their own to help? Or is there some high command order to not help Kerala?
I have new twitter in which In another heartwarming development, a group of Pakistani workers in Dubai decided to donate a single day of their wage towards the relief fund for Kerala flood victims. The generous act by these people, who are already lowly paid even by UAE standards, has touched several hearts.
But our selective media will not show but more interested in Cricketer turned politician Siddus hugs.
