Mangaluru: Independence Day celebrated at Saanidhya Residential School

Mangaluru, Aug 17: Lions Club Balmatta in association with Saanidhya Residential School, Shakthinagar recently celebrated the 72nd Independence Day at Saanidhya Residential School.

Harry Dsouza band master and the special students of Saanidhya Residential School welcomed everyone with a patriotic song.

Lion George D'Souza MJF, president of Lions Club Balmatta, unfurled the tricolor Indian National flag. He was acompanied by members of Lions Club Balmatta, administrator, president and trustees of Saanidhya Residential School. Adminstrator of Saanidhya School Dr Vasanth Kumar Shetty welcomed the gathering and introduced the chief guest, Lion George D'Souza MJF. Addressing the gathering Lion George D'Souza said, "It is the duty of every citizen to remember our great freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for our country.How our ancestors fought against the British to give us Independence and live freely, now it is the duty of every citizen to remember our great freedom fighters who sacrificed their life for our country." He also praised the work done by the teachers and trustees of Saanidhya Residential School.



Lions Club Balmatta members, adminstrator, president and trustees of Saanidhya School then celebrated vanamotsava by planting fruit bearing trees.

On the occasion of Independence Day, Lions Club Balmatta served breakfast to 160 students and staff of Saanidhya Residential School. President Lion George D'Souza MJF and Lion Erol Pinto donated gift cheques to the institution. This was a very good gesture by Dr Vasanth Kumar Shetty.

The administrator then felicitated Lions Club president and treasurer as well as president and trustees of Saanidhya Residential School.

The programme culminated with a cultural programme by the special school children of Saanidhya School followed by vote of thanks by president of Saanidhya School and former mayor Marla.
