Mangaluru: Transgenders celebrate Independence Day

Mangaluru, Aug 16: Transgenders under the leadership of Rastriyavadi Christara Vedike celebrated Independence Day on government land near Ladyhill circle here.

MLA Vedavyas Kamath said that the programme is a milestone to bring transgenders to the mainstream. “I will put forth a proposal in front of Mangaluru city corporation to construct a public park in the place where the programme is held as desired by the organizers.”

Vedike leaders Franklin Monteiro welcomed the gathering and gave a preamble. Corporator Radhakrishna Kudroli, Gokarnanatha temple trustee Ravishanker Mijar, advocate Lenny Marisa Pinto, Francis Pinto, Vijaya Pinto, Prakash D'Souza Kodikal, Anita Pinto, social activist Manohar Sanil Kodikal and Yogish Achar were present.



Lidia D'Cunha compered the programme.

    Glad to see these initiatives. Looks like things are getting better for transgenders. Acceptance into mainstream might take a while but definitely its in right direction
