Mangaluru: Kapikad ward, Ayappa Swamy Bhaktha Mandali jointly celebrate Independence Day

Mangaluru, Aug 16: Kapikad ward and Ayappa Swamy Bhaktha Mandali jointly celebrated Independence Day on the roadside of Kapikad ward, Derebail at Kottara Cross.

Rajnish Kapikad (corporator) Derebail ward 24 and former deputy mayor was president of the function. After hoisting the flag, he addressed the gathering. "Derebail ward got parisara malinya prashasthi, because of the support of the people of the ward. I remember the freedom fighters and assured that I will serve for social justice and all round development of the area keeping in mind Swaccha Bharath and greenery for the prominent place in service."



Fr Austin Peter Perris attended the programme as guest and addressed the people. He said, "I love the interest of the local leaders and localites' love for the nation in the celebration of Independence Day. I also wish the Hindu friends / brethren for Nagara Panchami. We must unite together to serve the people in society irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Celebrations of various festivals of Hindu ,Muslim, Christians should be recognized and shared. We should not discriminate people in class and religion and divert their mind to evil thoughts and deeds. Ward leader Edward Coelho, Ayappa Bhaktha Guru swami Thukaram Devadiga and John Moras director of CFAL School were the other guests on the dais.

Guru Swami Thukarama Devadiga welcomed the gathering. Gurkar Edward introduced the guests on the dais. Winne Rodriguez and Edward conducted games and distributed prizes to the winners. Terry Pais leader of the diocese adressed the gathering saying, "Politicians and other leaders ignored the existence of women by exploiting them and considering them the weaker section. Strength of women should be recognised and women should be allowed in leadership. She has promised to help and guide the union and success of women in society.

Edward Coelho delivered the vote of thanks. This is a function of local leaders arranged by the generosity of goodhearted people of the area. Each and everyone helped the organisers for the sucess of the function."

Around 30 people were present inspite of Nagara Panchami celebratiion. Towards the end, refreshments were provided by the organisers. Independence Day celebrations have been held here ever since 1997 making it almost 21 years this year thereby portraying the love and affection of the people of the area irrespective of class, caste -creed and religion.

Master of ceremony was Sylvester D Cunha, ward representative.
