Sullia: MESCOM lineman electrocuted while working on electric pole

Sullia, Aug 16: A lineman attached to Mangaluru Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM) died after coming in contact with a live wire while attending a complaint here on Wednesday August 15.

The deceased has been identified as Janardhana Naik (48), son of Ramanna Naik, resident of Aletti village.

Janardhana was working on contract basis along with his brother Harish Naik. On Wednesday they were attending a complaint in Boliyamajalu near Jattipalla.

When the mishap occurred, Janardhana was on top of the electric pole and got electrocuted and died after MESCOM fulltime lineman switched on the power supply all of a sudden.

Sullia MESCOM AEE Harish Naik and local police visited the spot and the body was retrieved. The post-mortem was done at Sullia government hospital and a case has been registered at Sullia police station.

Janardhana is survived by wife and a daughter. The family was solely dependent on Janardhana and with this tragic incident; the family is left in lurch.

    RIP the soul of late Janardhan, Indeed its very sad incident which can be preventable, In a large safety point f view, These fatal injuries can be prevented by applying LOTO system(LOCK OUT TAG OUT) to avoid unexpected release of energy(Electrical power) while a person/group working with machine. Relevant authorities Shall think and apply LOTO to prevent re-occurrences results saving of precious life

    I am extremely angry, sad and ashamed at our state of affairs. Drainage clearing without any safety gear and dying due to toxic gas inhalation, electricity linemen dying due to lack of safety gear and absence of coordination, technicians dying due to asifyxation in chemical factories, labourers falling from under construction buildings etc., clearly shows that in India there is no value and respect for Human life. Authorities are not at all concerned about use of safety gear and following appropriate procedures. Government officials are least bothered on enforcement. After all whose life is it anyway?

    Very sad this is unacceptable by MESCOM. very poor safety standard the concerned Engineer has to be taken to task. This is not the first time it is repeated often. Shame on such big organisation.

    Sad to hear.. we lost many lives with similar incidents.. I think Mescom should come up with a strict policy... Whoever is going to work on electric polces should remove the edge fuse and carry with him.

    No line man should climb electric poles unles he have the the Main fuse physcially with him or he have the key for the box which he store the fuse temporarily.

    We lost many lives recent years with similar tragedy.. Since its a manual process no technology can help easily to safeguard ...

    RIP .. may god give courage to bear the great loss.

    VERY VERY SAD. SOME PEOPLE NOT WELL TRAINED IN SOME TRADES.
    LEARNING UNDER SOME USTADS AND GO A HEAD TO DO THERE WORK OF OWN. GOVERNMENT SHOULD MAKE COMPULSORY TO HAVE TRADE CERTIFICATE OR FROM IIT IF DOING ANY WORK EITHER SMALL OR MAJOR.
