Can't handle tricolour, let alone nation: Congress on Shah

New Delhi, Aug 15 (IANS): The Congress on Wednesday took a jibe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah, saying those who cannot handle the national flag cannot be expected to handle the nation.

The Congress' jibe came after Shah fumbled while hoisting the national flag at the BJP headquarters here. The Tricolour slipped down the pole to the ground as soon as Shah pulled the string.

"How could those who cannot handle the national flag would handle the nation? If those who derided the tricolour for over 50 years had not done so, things would not have come to such a pass," the Congress party tweeted as it shared the video of the fumble.

"Those who give certificates of patriotism to others are oblivious of the etiquette of the national anthem," it added.

Many other Twitter users also shared the same video with sarcastic comments.

For 52 years after the independence, the RSS did not have a tricolour at their headquarters in Nagpur. They used to salute the saffron flag, not the national flag.
After the first Republic Day in 1950, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh never hoisted the Tricolour at its Nagpur headquarters, sticking to its Bhagwa Dhwaj, inscribed with an "Om", even on R-Day and I-Day. It changed the practice in 2002 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Prime Minister.
However, K.B. Hedgewar and M.S. Golwalkar, the Sangh's first and third chiefs, had thought otherwise.

When the Congress agreed to hoist the Tricolour in January 1931, Hedgewar circulated a directive among all Sangh shakhas to consider the Bhagwa Dhwaj their national flag.

On July 14, 1946, Golwalkar told a congregation at Nagpur: "It was the saffron flag which in totality represented Bharatiya culture. It was the embodiment of God. We firmly believe that, in the end, the whole nation will bow before this saffron flag."

Golwalkar again aired the Sangh's reservations about the national flag in the essay "The Eternal Basis", part of a compendium of his essays, titled Bunch of Thoughts.

"For example, our leaders have set up a new flag for our country. Why did they do so? It is just a case of drifting and imitating," Golwalkar wrote.

They hoisted the flag at their headquarters first on 15th Aug 1947 and then 26th January 1950. After that they stopped hoisting the ‘Tricolour’ even on Independence Day and Republic Day until 26th January 2001 when three young men belonging to Rashtrapremi Yuva Dal forcibly hoisted the National Flag at Nagpur.

No Mr. Shah, u don’t deserve to touch our Indian flag.
The tricolor refused to wave at Amit Shah's hands. Through this tricolor, Bharat Mata is saying something - that she is sad.

i have seen the video where Amith Shah flipped down the flag on Independence Day .

He and his party for the last four years kept on teaching and giving certificates who is anti national and who is national.
he fed all news channels crores of Tax payers money to certify who is national and anti national. and see now how he disrespected national flag by putting it to ground that too on Independence day.
