Udupi: Man dies due to non-availability of facilities at government hospitals

Udupi, Aug 15: A poor person belonging to Dalit community, died on Tuesday, August 14 due to non-availability of medical facilities in two government hospitals.

Bhaskar (36) is the person deceased. He was the resident of Perampally –Gerukatte.

As per details available, Bhaskar worked as a mason. He developed some urine complications on Tuesday and went to Ajjarakad Government Hospital. The staff at this hospital said that they do not have the facility to treat Bhaskar and sent him to Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru.



At Wenlock Hospital, they said that there was no place in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The poor people could not afford well-equipped private hospitals in Mangaluru and hence decided to return to Udupi. But Bhaskar breathed his last on the way.

The funeral was held on Wednesday.

Bhaskar’s brother Harish also had died of non-availability of proper treatment at Ajjarakad hospital two years back.

20 Dalit families who stay at Perampally –Gerukatte live in abject poverty without proper documents of their houses.

People from Perampally –Gerukatte have said that Bhaskar died just because he was poor and hence no one came to his rescue.

It is also said that Bhaskar had to be taken in a private ambulance to Mangaluru and back as government ambulance was not available.

People have given a complaint to assistant deputy commissioner in this regard.

    Medical facilities in most of the hospitals in udupi are very bad.Even the private hospitals in udupi don't have proper medical facilities. Have seen lot of innocent people losing their lives. RIP.... Udupi is underdeveloped in terms of good hospitals. Really needs to be taken care by our great ministers.

    This is the value of the life of Dalit of India who are only fit to roll over half left plantain leaf by Brahmins. It is shocking to see a person dying from non-availability of facilities in district which send thousands of Doctors each year reputed for professional medical colleges.

    Where is our local MP Shobha Karandlaje who likes to maintain Sangh Parivar dead comrades list and busy uploading fake news from postcard.com?

    I would like to request former Congress MLA Pramod Madhwaraj to assist this family who is known to be philanthropist helping poor and providing free housing.

    Though India spend equivalent to Thailand in Health care schemes service is hardly reaching and the success rate is one of the lowest.

    There is no point of launching new schemes if the government facilities are not adequate. It may be basic Oxygen service like Uttar Pradesh or this Dalit man in ICU PM Modi's health care scheme is failure.

    Very tragic. Health care in india is poor. Should have set our priorities right long ago but better late than never. Both central and state govt must spend more on health care and also implement strict rules to curb mushrooming of for profit private hospitals. Finally when are we going to address the elephant in the room? That is over population. Its time govt and society address the issue and measures to slow down the population. Many families may have the financial strength to have 4-6 kids but you are still burdening the country by producing more.

    Govts, state and central should set priority.

    1. Drinking water and public healthcare should top the list of priority.
    2. We cannot afford to lose lives because of lack of facility or capacity in Govt Hospital.
    3. Super fast highways, bullet trains etc. can take later priorities.

    Our leaders talk about India becoming a major superpower soon but on the flip side, there are poor people dying due to lack of basic healthcare and infrastructure.

    If Government hospitals are ill equipped and lack basic facilities, where will the poor go?

    When we have more and more leaders who are selfless and interested in the welfare of the citizens, then we can truly celebrate independence day. It is easy to say Mera Bharat mahan hai occasionally and move on with our lives.

    When a patient died for want of facility in govt hospital in BJP ruled state all these chaddiless sickular were shouting from roof top regarding the state of affairs of BJP rules States why they r hiding today. They used to shout far away from US, Germany, DBX, AUH, Bahrain etc etc all r enjoying in rat holes?

    A very sad moment light up with this poor family .. Why there is lack of attention upon medical treatment and that too at the moment where he is about o die in so critical moment.     There is no value for poor people. Felt very sad for pathetic service from Government Hospitals.
    My request to all politics parties don’t visit Government Hospitals only during election time.

    Very sad incident....

    Humanity comes first no matter of religion : still so called Hindutva protector should have offered little support in such incidents or there are lot of people who really need support in society.

    Let so called Hindutva protector help All Hindus in their locality and so called Muslim protector or Christian protector support their own community first who really really in need of help.

    Of-course next turns to help All irrespective of community.

    Unfortunately we do not come forward in such incidents since there is no publicity or politics.

    Why bring religion or politics in death of any citizen in HOSPITALS or Accidents.... ( Murder/ Revenge/ love matters is not an Accident ) Foreget his caste/religion just think on purely humanity ground and why he lost his life.... If sickness is the reason then concerned Hospital/Doctor/Facilities and District head/Ministers can be liable for not providing proper facility..... If died due to accident then we could say rash driving, over taking, bad roads, vehicle problem or bad luck.... Hindutva is not connected to this death... ONLY IRRESPONSIBLE OFFICERS connected to Hospitals and concerned Health Inspectors and Ministers who rule the state are directly responsible...... I agree... to some extent NGO's, CLUBS, Friends Circle can help the needy - if exists in that area.... but purely on Humanity ground not Religion....

    If one MLA given a call (*only recommendation) to Ajjarkad Hospital or Wenlok will they say there is no space availability?
    Then what is the meaning of emergency?
    *People involved in dirty politics get admitted in government hospitals for petty fight just to lodge a police complaint have you not noticed?
    * how many of them denied admission after a street fight supported by a politician ?
