‘...Sabrina' first look photos out

Los Angeles, Aug 14 (IANS): Netflix has unveiled initial photographs of upcoming series "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina", which will release in October.

The photographs show actress Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina Spellman, and a scene from the dark Baptism of Sabrina, read a statement.

"Riverdale" showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also serves as Chief Creative Officer of Archie Comics, penned the script for the series.

Like "Riverdale", "Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina" will be dark. It imagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft. What made Archie Comics' team go on the darker side?

"It's a testament to the versatility of the characters -- the fact that, at one end, you have Archie in Pop's having milkshakes and worrying about the school dance, and on the other, he's battling a zombie apocalypse," Archie Comics CEO and publisher Jon Goldwater told IANS.

"What that showed me, early on in my tenure at Archie, was that as long as you were true to the essence of the characters -- you could drop them into any kind of situation. They could become werewolves and vampires. Sabrina could go really dark, as you note. So, it's not just about going dark, it's creating variety and telling a great story," he added.
