Mangaluru: Hundreds of participants converge at international youth convention

Mangaluru: Aug 13: Sisters of Charity of Mangaluru province organised a day-long international youth convention at Capitanio Educational Institutions on Sunday, August 12.

Addressing the delegates, Fr Ivan D’Souza, professor, St Joseph’s Seminary said, “India is a country of youths. Here, in every section, we can see young people. It is good for our country’s growth and strength. But in the current world, there are many negative forces trying to lure them towards bad deeds. Some mafias target youths for their gain. Political parties and some organisations, who are not at all bothered about young minds’ future and the country’s growth, push them into anti social activities.

“Youths should understand the hidden agenda of these anti social forces and try to defeat them with wisdom. They should use their knowledge and strength to build a prosperous nation. Fear of God and human values will help them to become successful in life. Helping nature will make them more adorable in society,” he said.

Fr Fabio from Italy, who attended as chief guest said, “Indian youths are very intelligent and courageous. They are known as trouble shooters which mean they can handle any type of tough situation. Fear and belief in God is another great thing which I can see in Indian youths. They love their families and take care of their parents.

“Today under the slogan ‘Be the Change’ all of you have gathered here. Change should come from the bottom of your heart. We should transform ourselves as ambassadors of love and humanity,” he said.

In her message, Sr Matilda Monterio, the provincial superior, Sisters of Charity said, “Spread the message of God all around the world. Change violence filled regions into heavens of peace and love. Win hearts through humanity and brotherhood.”

“The day turned out to be memorable and enriching one as hundreds of youth from all over Karnataka and eastern and western states of India participated as delegates. A special delegation from Italy also participated in the convention.

    Congratulations to the Sisters of Charity nuns for organizing the International Youth Convention at Capitanio School, which school is very familiar to us. During our school days, more than 70 years ago, we used to go on foot from our home in Jeppoo to visit our nun sister at Belvedore Convent of Sisters of Charity we used to pass by the Capitanio School, which school is now conducting the International Youth Convention, which is a nice story to record.

    The young ladies in the picture appear to be healthy and happy. They even have the T-shirts that very much resemble the famous Dallas Cowboys Football uniform. We also notice various foreign students in the audience, and this is indeed a good news.

    Let our young ladies get the very best of encouragement so that they all turn out to be successful athletes sooner or later and bring additional interest amongst all the youth that is getting ready to take over.

    India is a promising country for the young men and women. Their participation in various sports and recreations will allow them to move upward in life, and help many others rising after them in life. Thank you, Sisters of Charity nuns. You have all the support of ours, and you will be a great help to Mangalore.
