Bengaluru: NSS unit inaugurated, Vanamahothasava celebrated at Loyola Degree College

Bengaluru, Aug 13: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit was inaugurated at Loyola Degree College, Bannerghatta on August 11. Also, Vanamahothsava was also celebrated.

The programme was inaugurated by Saalumarada Thimmakka. Speaking on the occasion, giving words of wisdom to students she said, “I did not have children, so I planted tress for four kilometers on the sides of the roads and cared for them like my own children. These trees have grown up today and are providing shelter to thousands of people. That is why everyone should take care of trees like they take care of own children”.

In his introductory words, the programme officer of the National Service Scheme in the college Dr Kumaraswamy Belli Hajji said that National Service Scheme should not limit itself to cleaning the environment. It should also include the complicating social stratification in the society. He further stated that not only the environment but people’s mind also needs to be cleaned. The National Service Scheme was started in the name of Mahathama Gandhi and so is the Swacha Bharath Campaign. But today the man who killed Gandhi Nathuram Godse is worshiped. He said that the mindset to worship Nathuram Ghodse can only exist in India.

Chief guest of the programme Dr Srininvas, the coordinator of the National Service Scheme, Bangalore University said that the students should not pick up the waste from the sides of the roads just to show they are doing the work of cleaning. Instead there should be commitment in the work of cleaning. He also said that the achievements of Salumarada Timmakka should become inspiration to the students.

The principal of the college Fr Francis D’ Alameda said that Salumarada Timmakka coming to the collage has made all really happy and her blessings should always be there on the students.

The programme was presided over by the head of the Loyola Group of Institutions rector Fr Anthony Joseph. The students and teachers of Loyola Higher Primary School and Loyola College participated in the progamme. Lecturer of the department of Commerce Tejaswini compered the programme and student Kanaka Jyothi rendered the vote of thanks.
