Udupi: 16 fishermen rescued after two boats drown in deep sea

Udupi, Aug 12: As many as 16 fishermen were rescued after two fishing boats drowned in separate incidents between Bhatkal-Gangolli deep sea following heavy rains on Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday August 11, 8 fishermen were returning after venturing into deep sea in the boat named Shivaganesh when the mishap occurred.

On the morning of Sunday, August 12, another boat with 8 fishermen named Padmadas returning to Malpe drowned after some damage inside the boat.

However, all the 16 fishermen in two boats were rescued by other boats and safely brought to the shore.

The heavy rains accompanied by wind at the deep sea is said to be the reason for the mishap.
